Howdy y'all. I just bought my first vintage Gillette, which is a 1964 Travel Tech. I'm not going to use the small travel handle for a regular daily shave, but plan to use another full size handle with it. So, my silly question is whether the size of the of the travel Tech the same as a regular Tech?

Thanks for any help or info.

Oscar

It sure is and you can use most any handle with it.

Honestly Oscar, I'd skip using the Tech handle for anything. It's far too short to be practical and it's much more comfortable to throw the head on a full size handle. I'd throw the small handle in a drawer.

You know what Dave, I've already done just that. On a whim a few weeks ago, I bought a new Weber bulldog handle and nothing more. Now, as luck would have it, I've got the perfect use for the handle. So, the anticipated handle I'll be using with the Gillette Tech head is the Weber bulldog handle. For now, that is...

Thanks again Dave! I appreciate the insight.

This the Tech with the Weber handle. It's a little shorter than the iKon handle, but I like its knurling and heft. We'll see how it goes.

I used the exact same setup all last week. You will love it. The weight of the handle really allows for an effective, mild shave that leaves you with a bbs face.

Awesome, thanks! Btw, what are your other setups, and how does this compare to some of your other razors?

I rather like the little handle all the same. Cute. I like to shave with it when I travel. I like the experience, being away from home, using the little kit, etc.

I had read somewhere (but where?) that the blade tabs are missing in the travel tech. I have one, and the tabs are clearly there.

I use the tiny handle from time to time also Shaun. Not frequently but it does happen from time to time. In fact it's the only way I use the Tech since my travel tech is the only Tech that isn't stashed away.

This thread inspired me to use a combo I hadn't tried yet. I put the head from my B3 Ball-end Tech onto my Cadet TP-26 handle. The results were just as smooth and comfortable as the Tech usually is, but easier to grip and a closer shave. Thanks for the idea!

That looks like an awesome setup!

Btw, Chuck, you're right. The shave was smooth, and now I have a reference point for "mild" shavers, which the Tech clearly is.

Its fun to experiment with different setups,ie, the handle of 1 razor with the head of another. Right now, I'm using the head of a Lord L6 on a Parker 91R handle. The 91R handle is about the same length but much heavier than the aluminum handle of the L6, and this combo is wonderful. I imagine the Weber handle with the L6 head would yield similar results, but I haven't tried it yet. The possibilities are endless.Thumbup

Alex, I'm not sure what's more impressive, your collection or your organization of your collection. Either way, sweet collection!

Hi, Alex,

I have a British-made Tech with the 40s thin handle combined with the head of the ball-handle 1950s model as per your photo

Please tell me that it is a very rare model worth approx $2M

I have two Techs from the '60's. One has the standard Ball End Tech handle, but its a Travel Tech head on it. Guess the guy that used it didn't like the small handle either. Never shaved with any of them. I need to give them a run. I need to buy some handles too.

Thanks for the inspiration.
