Wow! This was my first open comb shave and it was amazing. I used my newly acquired RazoRock Little Bastone and I was very impressed. Shave was a little rough but probably from where I am not accustomed to a blade that close to my face. If anyone hasn't tried an open comb and are curious, I highly recommend the Little Bastone. Not a bad investment for $20.

I had my first open comb shave yesterday and my second today with the same razor (Cadet brand). I agree - it's a nice razor; a smooth, efficient shaver.

I don't find the Cadet all that smooth, but it sure is efficient. The Merkur 1904 is perhaps the smoothest razor I've used but it is quite mild in comparison.

* You may want to try shimming the 1904 as it really helps improve the razor. Good luck.

My CADET TP-27 Open Comb shaves close but it keeps nicking me. Nothing major just faint blood spots. I've tried Derby Extra and Astra Superior. Will try other blades in search of that sweet combination.

The Cadet open combs are excellent and give very smooth and close shaves IMHO. For the price they are almost an unbeatable value. The Merkur open combs are very similar if not the same within their brand.

I find that mine is basically completely intolerant of added pressure.

At this point, thankfully, I only nick myself in the same place I've *always* nicked myself, including with a cartridge.

The Merkur OC head is my favorite DE razor. It is a mild head, but I can get a DFS shave or better and virtually no irritation. The Gillette Old Type head is very similar in performance. I have 2 Merkur heads on non-Merkur handles (a Weber Bulldog and an EJ Plaza handle). They look good and are a joy to shave with. Tongue

I've enjoyed several great shaves with my Little Bastone as well. I also got a Merkur 15C in the mail this afternoon so I'm looking forward to the comparison.

The 1904 OC is one of the mildest razors I've tried. It's more mild than the 34C.
