I am looking for an alternative to my AOS balm which I've been using for 16 years. Price is no object. I do not want the aftershave to compete with my cologne. Please give me your wisdom....

When I want to wear cologne, I use the Speck aftershave. It's scent is light enough that it doesn't clash, but it still had fantastic skincare properties.

I agree with Anthony about the Speick after shave. The Speick balm also does not compete with scent of after shaves or colognes.

Proraso balms are nice and have a very light scent which fades fast. If you want to go a slightly different route...Cliniques post shave healer is excellent as is Zirhs post shave balm.

The Nivea Balm sold in local stores is a very good no scent balm. Pre De Provence Balm is good and doesn't have a scent that's strong or would compete with a cologne. If your interested in a splash the Nivea Energy is decent and has almost no scent. It can also be found locally. I've heard that Lucido Splash has very little splash and is good though I've never tried it.

I like Lucido splash and Lucido balm. These both work great and also have no scent to my nose.

Another vote for Speick. The skincare properties are first rate. I also think DR Harris Windsor fall in the same category and find its scent very light.

Thank you very much for your answers. After I shave, I use cologne so I do not want competing scents. I will try a few of your suggestions.

I also use the 444 balm from Portugal. It is a great menthol balm with little scent. It also works wonderfully when mixed with my favorite cologne.

Another vote for Mandom Lucido. It's an alcohol based aftershave splash with glycerin. It doesn't sting, and it's incredibly soothing. Best of all, it is unscented.

Are you looking for a balm or a splash? I found that the Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort balm has very little, if any, scent and is pretty moisturizing. I'm a big fan of the Pre de Provence balm, but it does have a scent; its a sage/woodsy scent. Doesn't last long though. I usually shave and put aftershave, then have breakfast, and get ready for work after that (I wear shirt and tie and suit so I don't want to risk getting stains, especially with two young kids who like to put peanut-buttery hands over everything and everyone). By that point, any scent from the PdP is long gone (usually after about 5 min.) and I put on EdT.

My EdT of choice is Hermes Terre d'Hermes, and I like how the "memory" of the PdP scent brings out the woodsy profiles of the T d'H.

I always liked Ice Blue. Not much of a scent at all, and it's nicely invigorating. It definitely won't compete with any cologne(s).

Thann Shiso after shave (contains shiso and witch hazel)
Shiseido Men Tonic Lotion
Shiseido Men Tonic Hydrating Lotion (this one is more moisturizing)
Farmacia SS. Annunziata 1561 aftershave (contains witch hazel)

I have three of the above four (not the Shiseido Hydrating). All are nice, the Thann leaves your skin silky, the Shiseido does a very clean job (it's practically a toning lotion), and the Farmacis SS. is a product of exceptional performance.

I make my own using generic witch hazel, isopropyl alcohol and glycerin. 8 ounces of witch hazel to 8 ounces of isopropyl and a tablespoon of glycerin works very well and costs less than $3. You can adjust the ratio of witch hazel to isopropyl alcohol to suit your preference.

I'll echo the Lucido recs. Unscented + menthol and pretty good moisturizing qualities for a splash.

If you want an unscented balm, my favorite is Crown Shaving Co.
