Do you wear a tie? Do you only wear a tie to weddings and funerals? What knot do you prefer?

I prefer the half Windsor for comfort. I find the full Windsor a little bit boorish, but it can look good if the suit is a good cut and it suits a man's face, i.e. wide and large... and he has the height. Anyway, I don't have a tie long enough or thick enough to get away with the Windsor. If I try, I end up with a short, fat tie, you know, a bit 'spiv', a bit comedic, a bit 'Al Capone'.

James Bond disliked the Windsor. I only say that because his name keeps popping up in the forums: what brush; what razor, etc.

I also dislike skinny-looking ties, but that's just me.

I wear a tie when I absolutely have to. I own 30 good/decent quality ties though. Mostly Robert Talbotts. I do have to wear a tie more often than I want to. About 3x per month.

When I do, I prefer a Pratt knot.

The Pratt or Shelby is the only one I use too. I wear one of my dozen ties maybe three times a year. I'd love to learn new knots and have tried, but for me it's the muscle memory that ties the tie. If I don't tie a knot often, I don't learn it. So: the Shelby.

I most use a half Windsor because of my height (6'4"). In most cases if I use a full Windsor I run out if tie an the tie end up being really short. I do have a handful or nice ties that are tall sized, with those I can do a full Windor. That bring said, I only wear a tie about 1-2 times a month and when I do it's always w/ a jacket/ suit.

Wore a tie for at least 5 out of 7 days a week, 48 out of 52 weeks, for 40 some years. Once I retired I don't think I've worn a tie more than 20 times in a year.
Had/have 100's of them. Always used a Windsor.

I have to wear a tie every day at work (I actually enjoy it so I don't "have" to). I have a big, round face, so I use a full Windsor knot. Also, since I have a long torso (but shorter arms and legs unfortunately; if I had proportionate arms and legs I'd probably be like 6'5") so I use XL ties as well.

Back in the mid 70's I was a Deputy Sheriff in Freestone County Texas. I learned real quick to wear a clip on tie. Been wearing clip on ties every since then. I know it's cheating, but it's quick and the knot always looks nice.

Saying that, I can count on one hand how many times I've worn a tie since I retired on October 30, 2005.

About 90% of the time you will find me in a t-shirt, blue jeans, and suspenders.

Funerals and weddings if I do at all. Central Texas is pretty laid back so suit/sports coat, nice shirt and jeans is common attire, as I wore last night.

I avoid ties if at all possible, but when I have to wear one I'll tie the one knot I can; a half Windsor.

I very rarely wear a tie, but, if I have to, only a full-Windsor will do. Cool

I wear a tie 2 or 3 times a week. And I always use a full windsor knot cuz that's the only one I tie well.

Michael, maybe that's because the lopsided half-Windsor never looks like it is tied well. Tongue

I'm going to have to look up some of these other knots and see if a change is in order...or at least some variation.

I must admit that I've never heard of the Pratt knot.

(Actually, I haven't heard of any knot other than the Windsors!)
