Fellas,

Took the plunge on ordering Simpsons chubby's for my dad, my twin and myself.

Chubby 2 X 3 & Chubby 3 X 2 Wink SUPER BADGERS in the house!!

Chubby 2's

Chubby 3's

[attachment=11576]

A Point to note is that the bristles on these two Chubby 3's are quite different in terms of count and feel.

The one on which Chubby 3 is written with a bigger font is more dense and feels to have more backbone and scritch. Similar to Rooney's finest.

Whereas the one with the smaller font seems little less dense comparatively and is more softer overall. Similar to 3-Band Thater.

Similar difference of bristles was also experienced with Chubby 2's

What do you guys reckon? Whats the deal with the font size? Does it have to do with the manufacturing date?

Cheers!

Wow! Nice set of chubbies you picked for the family.

Simpson's brushes are well known for being individual from brush to brush. Font, density, hair grading and handle color can vary greatly. Enjoy those chubbies!

Lovely brushes there Smile

The variation you see is just how Simpson brushes are I'm afraid. In the past I have bought the same brush a number of times to get one I was happy with. Eventually my numbers came up and I got ones that I was happy with.

Those are some beautiful brushes...... with regards to the small variations in density & softness, this is the pleasure of owning hand made/selected brushes no two are the same.

In my own collection I have Chubby's 1-2 & 3 in Best & Super. And a couple of Bests feel more like super.

With regards too the font size, again this adds character to those wonderful brushes, I hope your father, twin and yourself Enjoy

Nice set of Chubbies! As mentioned the fonts and knots often vary quite a bit between Simpson brushes. I have Chubby 2 brushes in 2-band Super and Best. I have owned Chubby 3's in Super (2 & 3 band). The current Chubby 2 Best I have feels more like the Super knot in use. Those differences are why some love Simpson brushes and others do not.

Very nice brushes.

I see what you mean about the different letter fonts - I've never seen that before, all of my Simpsons have the same font as the first two Chubby 2's.

I also notice that the third Chubby 2 in your picture doesn't have a sticker on it - did it come that way or did you remove the sticker yourself?

This is typical of Simpson brushes, each batch sent out is not the same, and brushes in each batch differ... This is why people that are looking for "perfection" probably shouldn't buy a Simpsons; I either don't care, or buy from Jarrod where I can see the lineup if I have to have that "one".

And that's why I am hesitant to buy more Simpsons, reading about the differences among same models gives me the feel that it's a bit like playing the lottery. Not to say that there brushes lesser quality or anything.

Simpson and Shavemac are well known for allowing a pretty big margin for variation in their brushes - handle sizes as well as knot shapes and hair quality.

I own 4 Shavemacs with 3-band Silvertip hair, and even though one was orderd with extra dense knot - I can still feel quite a bit of variation in hair quality in all 4.
Shavemacs D01 3-band and D01 2-Band in my view are more constant in the hair quality you get.

I have been fortunate so far with my Simpson brushes, as all my 8 all are quite excellent brushes, but I know one will experience some differences in quality and feel of brush if you order more than one of the same Simpson brush.

so the question remains, is this variation acceptable?

i own and enjoy a chubby 3 in Manchurian.

i may order another one to leave at my in law's house.

id probably return it if the second chubby 3 Manchurian was significantly different.
