Unlocking the Simpsons Keyhole...

Another underrated and often overlooked offering from the Simpsons stable...

The KH2 in Best

The unique handle shape
lends itself to the user that has a preference for
the handle base to be orientated in to the palm.

The knot shape echoes that of the handle stem.
The bulb at the head of the handle
provides the pivotal point for this symmetrical design.

I've often asserted Simpsons Best is their Best hair grade.
I stand by this again today.
In terms of value for money and function its very hard to beat.

The knot is soft and offers little resistance against the face.
Almost as soft as 3 band Super.
(To the point where in a blind test I might struggle to pick the difference).
It's by no means mop like, but doesn't have anywhere near the backbone of a 2 band Super.
The knot is not as concentrated or focused as 2 band, so feels bigger on the face.
It is dense enough to feel luxurious, but not overpacked to hog lather.
It's a very good all rounder.
But my preference is for something slightly firmer.
I used a 2 band Milk Churn yesterday and would reach for it again before the Key Hole.

Yeah man , you have conveinced me to get the KH 2 instead of the 3...well , at least , 90% sure now.Seems to be a comfotable handle , not very common and also well packed with hair.
And yes , I do feel that the "best badger" from Simpson is their best badger hair offering , but that's me.
Once again , terrific pics , my friend.Thank you for this post.
Do you have , by any means , other Keyhole brushes ?

Hello Ben, Fabulous photographs as always...... I too have the KH4 custom in super (Mark) made for me, and the Milkchurn. Excellent workhorses, nice to see some more recognition for these two.

Hello Ben, I did a thread back in January 12th 2013 under heading: Three superb Simspon underrated brushes. I don't know how to attach this sorry, but I am sure you can find this.

As for Spec's for the KeyHole KH4

OL=109mm, HL=56.3mm, HD=39.3mm/38.4mm, LH=52.7mm, K=24mm, W=81g

OL overall length, HL handle length, HD handle Dia, LH loft height, K knot dia, W weight g.

I'm thinking of selling the KH2 in Best and looking into a bespoke Manchurian KH2... ?

That sounds great Ben, I know how fond you are of the Manchurian hair. Love is in the air, go for it.

Ben,
Think of the extra funds you'd have available if you would sell me your Eagle 3Wink
