Dovo clippers cost $30 v. the $2.50 Revlon version. In between there are Solingen made clippers in the $10 range.

Then there are clippers made in Japan.

Do any of them actually cut better than the $5/$10 version?

I've tried them all ... I'm still searching! None of these clippers, including the pricier ones mentioned, are exceptional.

I hold on to nail clippers about as long as I hold onto a tub of chap stick so I can't imagine spending more that a few $ on a pair.

I have Seki Edge fingernail and toenail clippers, and they are very high quality indeed. They work beautifully.

I have some made by KAI sold under a brand that I cannot recall right now. They are stainless and incredibly sharp. A huge difference compared to what I had used before and were under $10.

I've never really sought out a "superior" nail cutter, I mean it's just cutting nails! Anyway, I've had the same 2 pair of clippers since the 80's. I keep the main pair in the bathroom and another backup pair in a old re-purposed cigar humidor in the closet for when the original pair break or go dull. I have no clue who makes them, they say TRIM on them and I've used them once per week since 1986 and they're still going strong, I do clean them well couple of times a year and oil them. They're probably Chinese made now and not worth a damn. Rolleyes

Dovo makes a nail clipper that never goes dull, they look like $5 ones you can get in any store but the quality is much better. I have no idea who sells them.

I have always wanted to buy a pair of "Feather" clippers just because they sound freakishly sharp. TBH, I prefer the Revlon brand to the expensive Tweezerman pair that came with my manicure/grooming kit.

The best thing I found for doing my toe nails is... *drumroll* my paternal grandfathers wire cutters. Just the right size, gives plenty of leverage and stays sharp. Also makes my Better Half shake her head every times she sees me cutting my nails Tongue

For my finger nails I tend to use the scissors on my multi-tool, followed up with the file on the same.

I have the Dovo cutters.. nice enough, but frankly I find them too sharp, if that is possible. The blades catch on the underside of my nails.

I also have a set of Hoffritz clippers that are about thirty years old. I remember buying them in a Hoffritz store when they were around.

By far, the best clippers I have ever used. I bought the Dovo's when I thought I lost the Hoffritz.

The best nail clippers for me is a small Victronox Swiss Army knife that costs $12. Has small scissors on one side and a nail file and a knife blade on the other side. It's small enough to always be in my back pants pocket and can do more than a nail clipper and clips nails way better.

check out: http://www.tweezerman.com/store/catalog/men/
click "shop beauty products", scroll down and click "men" or "other essentials".

I have some basic toenail and fingenail clippers that I found at Bed&Bath....
storefinder at bottom of page.....start at around $10-ish. they also have a basic grooming kit with a few implements in a pouch.

quality is solid and they offer lifetime service and sharpening/replacement options.

and they even sell the "Tweezerman" shaving brush ! NOT THAT YOU NEED ANY BRUSHES !! HEH HEH ! TongueSmileBiggrinPancarta

wow these sure looks super cool Eelco. if they cut as good as they are handsome it will be my next clipper - although i never use anything but a very good file for my hands - this one:

http://item.rakuten.co.jp/firstltd/c/0000000180/

handmade with absolute precision and at a very low price it is a gem - and the same is true about his foot file. must be perfect for jailbreak Biggrin

Actually you need two nail clipper's !

Small & Large !

Small = for your hands.

Large = for your foot nails (need more power Scared) (I love KOH)

+ a nail file !!!
