I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable than I can tell me if there are major differences in performance between the different models of Injectors.

Just had my first shave with mine, and though it didn't go as well as I might have hoped, it was actually pretty good for a shave w/ a brand new razor style. With such a wide range of models out there, I wonder if I have a potential collection on my hands.

(Also, what about PAL, Personna, or other injector-types?)

I have an E-2. Gold plated head, swirly butterscotch Bakelite handle. Very handsome piece of hardware, really.

I have a NOS E2 that was my Dads locked up in my safe deposit box. I know Nick (wknicholas) prefers and uses an E2. I find my G1 is about as aggressive as I want to get and for just a little milder shave, I like to use one of my I1's.

I never cared much for the PAL Injectors.

So would you say they get milder as they get newer?

That has been my experience.

Johnny,

How would you compare the Schicks to the Gillette injector?

I personally do not believe anyone has ever made a better injector than a Schick. Many have tried but fallen short, including Gillette.

I've shaved with Shick E,G,I and L series and a few Personna's

The E2 A very recent acquisition for me,so I can't do it justice. The E2 really gives a strong sense of the blade's edge,Shave is very effective and smooth for me as long as I keep the blade cover almost parallel. The only place I ran into trouble was going too fast trimming around my goatee not paying enough attention without being used to the razor...I cut myself a couple of times.

For me the G Types are a toned down version of the E's not the all out highly effective shave of the E but you can make mistakes with a G that the E will make you pay for...

I Series: I would have assumed them to perform the same, but I've found the I1 Injectors to be milder than the I2 (Hydro-Magic) On mine the blade edge to safety guard distance isn't the same, the gap varies as well. The I2 shaves very effectively yet is ultra smooth,I can set it on autopilot and get a fantastic shave with minimal user input,it's currently my favorite.

L Series: I've shaved with the L1 and L2 and found both to be too mild for me.

The Personna with the Stainles Steel top from the 1960's.Interesting razor,I have 3 and they all shave a little differently, the one I like the most shaves as well (in a different way) as most of my Shicks.

Here's some general info:

And here is the general info as above but better laid out, IMHO. Put together by our very own Andrew and Mike Perry.

You're 100% right Johnny, slipped my mind. They did some nice work on it and there's even a few extra things there that are helpful.

Wow, thanks for the run-down, Marc!

So the answer I'm seeing here is, "yes, Eric, there's a good enough excuse.. er.. reason for you to buy more injectors."

This is understood, yes? Biggrin

Both Johnny & Marc have given an excellent rundown. Marc is making me want to pull out my I2 and give it some more use. I haven't used it much as I figured it was much like my I1 which is too mild for me. Maybe it can compete with my E2.

Thanks Brian I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I hate to muddy the waters, but the devil's in the details. My I2 is more aggressive/effective than my I1 but I think it's also a bit more effective than most other I2's

As it turns out,my original I2 (according to the wiki) is the more rarely seen black handle with chrome head version.I recently acquired a backup I2 with the much more commonly seen gold head and gave it a short test run.I was expecting it to feel similar and it was close but not the same.Something felt a little different, subtle but a little different.

So I checked it out.The thickness of the blade cover etc..on the chrome head I2 is about 20% less, apparently they stamped a thinner sheet of metal to construct the chromed version.

I think it's letting the blade's edge sit a little closer, shave a bit more effectively yet at the same time very smooth.

Had my first truly great shave w/ my injector this morning. Great stuff. I can definitely see myself being bitten by the injector bug.

Outstanding ! The E2 shaves like a bat outta hell, but demands some extra attention be paid.

Good Deal Eric !
