Getting Deployed as in GD. Yes it's a Gold Dollar and it's going overseas. I was commissioned to build a razor for one of our service men to take with him when he is deployed this month.
He wanted something special with a bit of my customization on it but keep it simple.
I swept the hollow grind of the blade into the shaft, recontoured the spine with some scallops, redid the tail, swept the heel into a curve for a finger rest which then contoured into the shaft.
For the scales I used Black Buffalo Horn to keep it clean yet dramatic in a way as the shape echoes the Spanish point I added to the tip of the blade.
I also kept them a bit heavier as I'm anticipating less than optimal conditions considering where it's going.
You probably might not have known it was a GD. I think this is what one should look like if you want to use one.

Are the washers and pin you used in pinning that something special? They don't look like they were peened.

Thanks guys. I wanted to give him something solid, yet good looking to have in a place where I'm sure at times isn't so good looking.

Beautiful! If it isn't heresay, how about laser engraving his service branch logo onto the handle or blade? In my book, that would put this work of art "over the top".

I do acid etching/engraving which I have done on a number of blades and was considering doing a logo as you suggest. Time , funds etc. took it off the table.
But he does plan on more pieces with more "bling" maybe it'll happen then. But for this one it certainly would have been great.

Hi Mark

Nice reworking of blade, you've added some very nice details to it.

Those Black Buffalo Horn scales maybe "clean" looking, but they are also classy as hell looking. Stunningly simple and beautiful looking at the same time Clap

Take care, Mike
