I tried this soap in '07 when I first got into the world of wet shaving. I had a problem with the scent them for some reason.

I just got a new puck from Lynn and holy cow! I am loving it. First, it lathers like mad and second the scent smells great to me now.

Isn't it odd how you try a scent and don't like it and then at a later time you love it? Just figured I would give the Tabac fans something to shout out on.

If you have not tried this soap then you should really give it a try. It is wonderful!

I have all sorts of problem with scents. Yes Tabac was one of them.

I agree with what you wrote though. Really good stuff.

Maybe I just don't have a very discerning sense of smell, but this happens to me all the time. Many of the scents I disliked most at first end up being my favorite. Examples: C&E sweet almond oil, Body shop old version, Proraso red old version, Taylor Sandalwood, GFT, even the old Palmolive green stuff that smells like dish soap is one I now enjoy. The list goes on.

I got a tube of the cream from BullGoose but haven't tried it yet. However, I did open the tube to test the scent and my initial impression is that I like the scent a lot.

TABAC is a great performing soap. Polarizing scent. I liked it, my wife didn't. It's moved on to a newer traditional shaver and he's loving it so I'm happy.

I was impressed with the performance of Tabac but I wasn't crazy about the scent so I sold the soap and A/S. I would consider trying it again down the road.

I would consider buying a sample through your sample shop in the future. Unfortunately I have a backlog of stuff to try from my order from you. Biggrin

Does anyone know how the performance of the soap compares to the cream? I had a sample of the cream once and while I enjoyed the scent I wasn't overly impressed with the performance.

I've not tried the cream but from researching on the forums the soap is FAR SUPERIOR!

Nonsense... Wink To me, the scent is very nice but more importantly, the performance is wonderful. The same company makes Irisch Moos. Anyone remember what a nice performer it is? Thumbup

I've used only the soap as well... and it's a top shelf product. If you like your shave experience to carry with you through the day, Consider Tabac it's one of the few soaps whose scent lingers for hours on my hands and face.

While I love it's packaging, I do wish the glass bowl had some texture to it as it's unkind to slippery hands.

That said, I am ticked at myself for waiting so long to try Tabac and I am sure it will always be in my inventory..

Another Tabac fan here. Started with the cream and advanced to the soap. Can't fault the performance and I like the scent. Don't mind the aftershave too.

I have been using Tabac consistently since mid January - with the exception of yesterday. It is an excellent shaving soap.

When I first smelled it, also hated it, felt it was waaay too strong for me (about a year ago). But now I love the scent...

The puck scent gradually fades into something more palatable, I find. First off it has a strange, disconcerting baby power, faintly used diaper kinda thing going on. That lingers. Fortunately this also diminishes, that is, doesn't hang around like the scent off a fresh puck does.

The lather is unsurpassed though, and has a nice slickness that seems to last long enough for that final little clean up job.

At first I was indifferent to the scent then it started to grow on me as the puck mellowed. Now there is something compelling about the scent, almost addictive. I've been out of Tabac soap for about 5 or 6 months when I ran across a deal on the SC so I picked up a tube. I had my first shave with the cream this morning, excellent shave. When this tube runs out I'll make a decision to replace with the soap or purchase the cream again but I'll have Tabac in the house. I've read some less than stellar reviews on the cream but it performed very well for me. The lather seems more soap like than billowy cream type, a dense yogurt style with great protection and after shave skin care. Different but good, IMO. Even at $4.60 a tube it probably won't be the most economical cream because I used a good sized dollop but if economics was the only factor to consider I probably wouldn't have MdC around either.

I enjoy the scent (and performance) of Tabac, but wouldn't want to use it every day. On the days I do use the soap I follow it up with the Aftershave Splash and enjoy it throughout the day, then it goes back into the drawer for at least another week. You would be hard pressed to find a better performing soap, IMHO.
