Macy's has a Dansk Fjord aluminum bowl on sale that I find works great for lathering. It is nicely sized for the hand and is made from 3/16" aluminum-built like a tank. I float it in the sink and find the heat transfer provides me with warm lather.
At under $7 it is a steal.

Agreed about shipping. You have to live near a Macy's.

Sometimes you can find a stainless steel double walled bowl on sale.

You can then drill holes in the side and allow water to enter inside the double wall bowl.

Kinda neat.
