i just got my SOC and can compare it to the LE2 now. i've test lathered the SOC once and used it once. i have a feeling it will be nearly as good as the LE2 and about 1/3 the price.

Here is a side-by-side, but they are very similar in overall size, knot size and loft.

using my calipers, i get the following:
SOC:

overall height: 115.84
knot diameter: 25.82
handle height: 60.16
knot loft: 55.68 (deducting overall from handle)

LE2:
overall height: 110.04
knot diameter: 27.73
handle height: 52.16
knot loft: 57.88

LE2 on LEFT, SOC on RIGHT.

This is good to know as I just bought a SOC off BST. Looking forward to your impressions as the SOC breaks in.

Well,I have both brushes and the Finest Bristle 2 2011 LE is denser than the boar SOC.However they both share the same premium hair (well, the Finest Bristle 2 has a even rarer premium hair, but pretty similar to the regular premium one) and the SOC,for its price, cant be beaten, unless the Semogue 2000 shows up...in this case, could be a tough battle to win for the SOC.

Thanks teiste.

Not sure it will win the battle of these 2 great brushes, but will allow for drying time when I use them back to back.

I only have about 6 brushes on the go right now, so when it came up on sale at vintagescent for $30 shipped, i quickly jumped on it.

For the price and fact that the LE's are now sold out nearly everywhere, it's a good choice for those who missed out and cost much less.

I think my LE2 boar is the better of the 2, I'm just interested to see by how much or if its even going to be noticeable.

All in all, Semogue makes a fine brush. And I sure hope they make a 2012 LE in natural hair or whatever you call it (non died) instead of the immitation badger look.

I also have the LE 2 Finest Bristle and two SOC brushes. Love all three of them. I might give a slight edge to the LE 2 but not by much. I agree, if the make a LE 2012, make it with natural boar like the SOC, not dyed.

I'll be following this thread with interest. I had the chance to pick up the LE but decided to go the cheaper route (I picked up the SOC also from VS on a tip from you on B&B - thank you very much brucered) as I've never tried a boar and was a bit hesitant spending the $$$ on something I wasn't sure I'd like. I look forward to your thoughts and comparison.

I do have to say, the LE is the one of the best looking brushes I've seen. I hope they come out with a similar LE this year or be lucky enough that it makes it into the regular line.

For the experts out there - was the SOC at one time a LE that made it into the regular line? And if so, why this specific model as I assume there have been other LEs since?

The SOC was originally the LE2009. I have some photos here, but they can't be seen right now (photobucket sucks!)

Here's some photos:

The SOC was created thinking on the Semogue LE 2009,but is not as hair dense as the LE is.

BTW,Oversaturn posted great pics of the LE 2009.Cool

so i've got a few shaves with the SOC now, and went back to the LE2 for today' shave.

to be honest, outside the handle, i don't see enough difference to notice or post anything to the contrary. outside of the handles, they are very similar to my feel and with my use.

yes, if i really dissect them, the LE would be a tad denser, but it's not like going from the LE2 to a $5 floppy Boar, they are so close in knot size and density (at least to me), i can't honestly tell them apart on feel on my face or lathering.

both are nice and i'm lucky to have them both.

Two of the best, if not the best boars on the market, IMHO.

Yep, the SOC cherry handle came later, but turned out to be a hit.

Thanks for the info. Now I don't feel so bad having skipped on the LE.

I've had the SOC Cherry for about two weeks or more now. Breaking in nicely and I like it more every day. Good buy. I picked it up from vintage scent for about 30 bucks including shipping if you're interested. Just be aware the shipping from Portugal takes a bit if you're impatient.

Have a pair of SOCs (in boar and badger) on the way...can anyone do a direct comparison of the 2011 LE2 Badger and the SOC Badger?

I got my SOC cherry the beginning of this week and it has been breaking in nicely with daily lathers. I've even been able to use it a couple times (with MWF) and wasn't bothered by stiffness at all. It's a truly beautiful brush and I'm glad I decided to buy one. I can't want to fully break it in and see how much better it will get.
