Shaved with my recently replated Gillette NEW. Since open combs of various makes have mangled me pretty well I decided to use my homemade shave oil rubbed in well and then lathered up with ARKO(first time I've ever used Arko). Yippee, no nicks or cuts and a smooth shave. I traded my Cadet Open Comb to a friend but am tempted to get another and try shaving with the oil plus lather.

The Gillette New Open Combs are great razors. There aggressive enough but still smooth. I prefer milder razors and I enjoy it.

Congrats. Find what works for you and go with it. I found the NEW too aggressive for me, but love the old type. Just because a razor is Open Comb doesn't mean it is aggressive. There are some very mild OC razors (Goodfella, Merkur 11c) and there are some that are at the other end of the spectrum.

Dittos. IMO, Aggressiveness is a function of razor head geometry not the comb type. The comb has more to do with lubrication, cushion, etc., that gets through to the skin/blade interface.

Any other less agressive open combs other than the ones already mentioned? Have read that the Goodfella's razor takes MILDNESS to new extremes.

What's in your homemade shave oil? Or is it a secret recipe?
