Listed on a few shave of the day posts, I've seen people list Barbasol as a pre-shave? Can anyone give me any further details on this please?

Some apply it, then put a hot towel on their face. They say it helps to soften the beard before lathering up with their soap/cream and brush.

I guess if it works, why not.

It's pointless; just use bath-soap; avoid unappealing chemicals.

Essentially, Barbasol is a soap.

Using Aftershave as a pre shave? Hmm...

Barbasol is a canned shaving foam, not an aftershave.

Are they talking about the shave cream in the tube?

I'm almost positive they make an aftershave too

If you wanted to use shaving cream as a pre shave, and you're going to make a lather anyway, why wouldn't you just make a lather and let it sit, wash off and then reapply?

I've read that the foaming creams contain compounds which make shaving less painful, but to the detriment of skin health

Just to muddy the water Barbasol also makes an aftershave balm in the Pacific Rush scent. I could see that being a decent pre-shave.

I have a tube, and I might try it someday in the interest of science Wink

I have the' Pacific Rush' in an AS splash, and the balm. I have the 'Brisk' scent in the splash.

They are nice little drugstore aftershaves.

I believe what the preshave users are talking about/using is the canned shave cream.

Put it on, wrap a hot towl around your face, wipe it off and apply your favorite soap/cream.

I use the can Barbasol as a pre shave and here's why. The stearic acid which is the 2nd ingredient is the main thing in Barbasol that softens the stubble and I think it does it faster than just using soap lather but, just like anything else ymmv. Besides it's a buck a can and it'll last you 6 months at least, so I don't think there would be any cheaper method other than just a hot towel. I don't use hot towels as they're a pain to set up and use.

Thanks for the explanation. I may actually try this out one day soon.

I'm gonna try this...The pacific rush seems like it would be a nice scent too and I'll probably pick up the aftershave as well.
