Will I find it significantly different to my ikon deluxe open comb head?

I found mine smoother than the ikon.

Overall though, just use as you would a normal razor. It's worth checking the blade has been put in correctly.

Shave as you normally do with a DE. Only thing to avoid would be a Gillette Slide. Any horizontal movement with a slant can really set you up for a cut.

Most likely you'll realize pretty quickly the extra efficiency this little torquer has while being extremely smooth. Hopefully by the end of the first pass you'll be comfortable with it. Godspeed.

Lighter pressure than you're used to. Shouldn't be a problem because that thing is a hot knife through butter. Slants are great!

Use canned goo and a 4 day old blade to start. Just kidding Smile

Don't worry about the slant. I found that it shaved much like the 34 hd, but was just slightly more effective. Relax and enjoy your shave.

I love my slants... beautifully efficient axes Biggrin

Avoid pressure and sideways motions, and you're golden. I also found that my slants are less picky when it comes the angle I hold them at than my non-slants.

+1 on making sure the blade is aligned correctly (the blade should have the same "exposure" on each side and line up straight with the top cap of the razor). Other than that, just use the same proper technique you would with any other razor. Enjoy it!

Just shave with it as you would any other moderately efficient razor. Trust, me...the fearsome reputation this razor seems to have is absolutely not deserved.

Thanks Attila. I'm not going to shave until the 37c gets delivered, just so there's plenty of stubble for it to mow down.

That is what the 37C or any slant excels at. Mowing down multi day stubble. Not many razors are quite as effective with as little tugging and excellent smoothness as the slant is in a situation like that. That has been my experience. Let us know how it goes for you.

14:36 pm wed 10. 4. 13. First shave with the merkur 37c using a new astra sp, palmolive stick/olbas oil, and cold water with two days stubble. let me say, I'm pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the shave. After three passes my skin feels as good or better than at any time during my ten months of using a DE. I've got no nicks, or rash, and didn't need to apply nivea blue creme, and whats more the aftershave didn't sting at all. Blade alignment and pressure are the key to mastering this little beauty. I will shave every couple of days for the next month using the 37c as it seems to prefer longer stubble. I wish merkur made this model in stainless Biggrin Thanks everyone for helping me to choose this superb razor.

Nice! This is a good reminder to folks not to be worried about the way the slant shaves. It may look fearsome but it most definitely isn't.

I just wish that i'd bought one sooner. I've had a better first shave with it than any of my other razors.

Just think what it will be like once you get familiar with it... Like any razor, the more you use it the better you get at using it. Enjoy!
