So I received my new progress today and that baby is lopsided!
at the setting 4 the blade gap on one side is half again the gap of the other side. Turn the razor over and it is just fine. Is sending it back or to Mer my only recourse or is it adjustable?

Make sure you have the lines matching on the cap. If they are, then returning to Merkur is your only option.

Also when tightening to top after you have loaded the blade press down on the spring which also makes it easier to line up and balance the blade which can move under the pressure of the spring.Just hold the razor with thumb on top and fingers underneath as you tighten the knob....THEN check the blade gaps.

Thanks Harvey! Flexing that spring did make a big difference. Will it stay that way while I shave?

The Progress is a great razor...It was the first one I used when I started Wet-shaving...I think the name was something else, but it was essentially the Progress. After I hurt my hand i could not longer such short handled razors, but it was a good razor while it lasted. I tried a Mergress recently, but the handle was just to short to grip right, but i recently saw a longer handled version so I may give it a whirl again.

I used to have to press the cap down while tightening or I'd end up with a slant....Also be sure to align the blade the way the cap shows, whith "4" being on the side with the 4 on the blade...if that makes difference i know, not save i used to do it, so....

Once the top is tightened everything stays put...no problems...obviously be careful how you position your fingers away from the edge of the blade.
