Are these really considered mild blades? I started off using Gillette 7 0 clock yellows because that what was given to me with my first poorly made razor. After getting a 34C I bought 100 thinking they were great. After reading about Gillette Silver Blues I ordered 200 and I came to the conclusion they weren't great either. I tried Wilkies from Wal Mart and ugh. However, the past two weeks I have shaved with just Arko, the 34C and Astra SPs and have got the greatest shaves ever. Are these blades possibly a different coating than the others I mentioned? I have always heard about how GSB's were so great, but to me the Astra SP does a whole lot better job.

A lot of it depends on the razor used. I used to really like Astras..but then I started changing razors and eventually sold off the ones that were working well with the Astras and now the ones I've settled on as my main "go to" razors do not work well with them at all.
However, Silver Blues do work well in them and I've moved on to those as my main blade and am in the process of getting rid of the Astras. It all comes down to razor/blade mojo and how your face/beard tolerate the combo..what is one mans bliss is anothers hell.

I'm not too keen on many types of blades, but to me, Astras are very sharp. They're me go-to for mild razors, and for more aggressive razors I use a smoother Shark blade.

I consider Astras to be a very sharp but forgiving blade.

For me they work the best: plenty sharp for my beard and forgiving on my skin.
Except for red Israeli personnas, i dont get along that well with other makes including : feather, iridium, shark, Gillette yellows and the other personnas.

I've had pretty good success with the Astra SPs and the Astra SSs. Not my literal favorite blade, but probably my favorite economy blade. A good blend of smoothness and sharpness.

I shaved with a SP in my Gillette Slim this morning and had a great shave.

I use the SPs in my Barley Jagger and they are smooth and sharp. They are my favorite behind Polsilver IR and Personna meds. I can get 3 to 4 good shaves out of one blade and they are inexpensive.

Smooth and fairly sharp, there were once my go to blade.

Once I found Iridiums/Polsilver Super Iridiums, Gillette Blues and Silver Blues, they became obsolete for me.

ASTRA's are my favorite so far. They have made some razors I have totally change personality.

I would agree on the personality change... I would call them "my favorite blades for certain specific razors." My favorite DE blade for a wide variety of razors is Rapira, smooth and sharp with my
SuperSpeed, Krona and Star DE.

However... an Astra SP in my NEW LC is wonderful!

I have really comfortable shave with the Astra blade on my ATT S1 razor.

They forgive a lot and the cut is in the middle of the pack.

I don't find Astra SPs to be mild, they are quite sharp and hold an edge pretty well also.  If they work well for you don't feel like they are a beginner's blade, for me they are not as smooth as some others on my neck but I wish they worked better for me.

+2. I've gone through two tucks of SPs and never used any of them for more than 1 shave. Not my cup of tea.

I find I like both the SP and SS Astra.. But prefer the SS's

Overall it used to be one of my favorites, not so much any more-- but I still like them, more in Techs and closed bar razors than open combs.

However, if all I could ever get to shave with again for the rest of my life were the Astra's I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

The really most important thing is what works and is comfortable for you.

I do use a lot of Personna blues now, because I like them and they are US made.  It sounds like that may change with rumor of the plant closing.  But I've got about 500 so no impact for awhile.  When those run out, still plenty of Astras here too. Smile
