A few weeks ago, while the other half was at work, and I was at home (I'm retired) preparing myself for a day of household chores, I decided to put the kettle on, pull out the Earl Grey, make myself a brew and prepare myself for painting the bathroom. I do hate the old paint and brush. I'd rather swim across a pond full of crocodiles than paint a room. But it must be done. While the tea calmed the old nerves, I switched on the computer for a few minutes while I enjoyed my cup of tea. I'm not sure exactly what I Googled, but up came DE razor. "What does DE stand for?" I ask myself. I soon find out and I start trawling the internet gathering all sorts of useful information about safety razor shaving. That geofatboy chap on Youtube is now my biggest idol. He's the bees knees when it comes to anything sharp!
A couple of days later I order a Merkur 38C from Amazon UK, some Prosraso shaving cream and pre shave. My 87 year old father gave me a shaving brush that has seen better days. Another few days go by and the razor arrives, all shiny and new. I have my first shave with a DE razor. Wow! I am now well and truly hooked, line and sinker.
Since that fateful day I've required a few more shaving items, a Merkur 1904, a Gillette Superspeed Red Tip from 1955 (my birth year, which is coming from America but hasn't arrived yet), a new brush, an Edwin Jagger DE89L , the head of which I've removed and put on my new Ikon Bulldog stainless handle. This is now my daily razor and I love it.
The postman knocked my door yesterday and my wife opened it. "I've got some parcels for your husband", "perhaps he's bought you a present?" he says politely, "You must be joking!" she retorts, "they're probably more shaving things!" I smile to myself. When it comes to the old grey matter, my wife has more brain cells than the average person. She can reply to a question at the pub quiz, quick as a flash. But when it comes down to the art of shaving, she lacks the same enthusiasm as geofatboy and myself. But I love her dearly. Well the days are going by and I've finished decorating the bathroom. The sun is shining, my face is shaved and smoother than the smoothest thing.
All is right with the world. Happy days!Wink
