This is a thread that will discuss a restoration of a brush and the decisions made along the way. This will be treated like a serial show with incremental installments until the story is complete. Installment additions will be interspersed throughout the thread between the comments.

Here is the first installment. Enjoy!

The Redleaf turn out to be an amazing member of my butterscotch collection. It's a beauty to look at an even more to use. It's a bowl lathering machine as GD selected the perfect knot...a real piece of art work from every angle.

I like it. It's like reading a favorite cartoon in the newspaper each day.

Reminds me of the great serials of days of yore. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I"m thinking what a tragedy about the original knot, it looks like it was a fine knot. Perhaps someone tried to use the brush to clean something that they shouldn't have?

It truly is a shame that the original knot was damaged because it was magnificent in size and feel.

Now we are trying to find out who made this "Redleaf" brush?
Simpsons, Rooney, etc.?

When this brush was on eBay, with another Redleaf, I got the distinct impression they were Vulfix but I can't remember why I was leaning in that direction. Keep up the good work, the suspense is killing me, but I am excited to see each new installment.

The original hair at least looks very nice, high quality. Did this "resin" prevent it from lathering, or what exactly was the issue?

It stunk to high heaven and it did not prevent lathering, but you would not want to lather with it. The smell and resin dye would never go away.
