Hello to all DE and straight razor fans out there.
I am Frans from the Netherlands. (Holland) I live in a small
community near Gouda. About three months ago I (re) discovered the DE shaving method. Twelve years ago, I bought a nice Silvertip brush in Germany and two weeks later I put it away and started using the Gilette cassette systems. At that time it seemed a lot easier and not so time consuming. If you have to get up at 04.30 every minute counts when you have to be at work at 06.00 hours. Three months ago, a friend told me, he used the DE method for months and was very happy with it. As I got home, I started researching everything I could find about Double edge. The result was spectacular I think. I first bought a Pearl (Cadet) razor and now I am the Lucky owner of a Weber Stainless, which I load with Personna and Feather blades. The shaving has never been so good and smooth. OK, it will cost a bit more time, but for me, it is a sort of Zen moment in my day! I use my old Silvertip everyday, it still works flawless!! And Eric and Lysbet from Barbiere di Figaro have been very helpful! They sell some really awesome Italian products! Their own soap (made by TFS in Italy) is wonderful. I use the Raffinato version almost everyday, it is incredible.Such a soft rich cream. I find it way better than the Tabac soap I still had!
Anyway, there is a lot to discover in the shaving world. I want to buy a synthetic brush. I read a nice article about the Mühle. At this moment there are also Omega Boar brushes for sale at "Trekpleister" drugstores.
Well, that's about it for this moment.

Kind regards,

Frans

Welcome to TSN my dutch friend Smile

I also prefer to use my DE razors when I have the extra spare time during weekends and when I shave the night before going to bed.
This gives me the extra time I need to get 2 solid full passes with one of my aggressive DE razors for the first pass and one of my mild DE razros for the second and then touch ups and cleaning of the shaving gear Smile

If I shave just before going to work I need and prefer to use a Fusion head on one of my nicer handles for easy and speedy shavings Tongue
I can still shave a 2-3 day stubbled beard in 6-8 minutes with my Fusion, while I need 12-15 minutes for the same quality shave with my DE razors.
If I always had the extra time, I would only use DE razors and only use my Fusion for under the nose hair (the backside of the Fusion is brilliant for removing these types of hair)

Hi Frans,

Welcome to The Shave Nook! Smile

Congrats on switching over to traditional wet shaving. It is truly wonderful, right? Wink

Like you, Shaving is now a peaceful "Zen" moment for me, too. I look forward to it every time I shave now. Smile

Hello Claus,

Thanks for your welcome! I also shave late in the afternoon or in the evening! You are right about the Fusion for the nose hair. I use it maybe once a week under the shower for
a touch-up, but that's it! Before I went back to DE, I used the Fusion under the shower all the time. Shaving was very fast (but not satisfying)I will never go back using Fusion for the regular shaves!
Kind regards,
Frans
