Hi lads,Geordie Sam here,
just got my motor insurance quote for the coming year,£340 = $522,fully comprehensive. How does that compare to what you pay in America,or wherever you happen to live.
Talking of motor cars,I was once fined £60 = $92 and had 3 points put on my licence, for having a drink of bottled water while driving at 30 mph,I was filmed from a police car from behind, over here you can't move for fear of being caught doing something. It is the only time I have ever had any dealings with the police.
Sam.

Mine is about $100 a year, but I live in a low risk area and my car is 20 years old.

There are so many variables, Sam. While I won't quote what I pay I will say that I think my rate is quite reasonable for where I live, the amount of coverage I wanted, and the fact that after 14+ years I treated myself to a new car in November.

Frankly, I'm happier using public transportation whenever possible so drive well under the average amount for my part of the United States and that, too, may be reflected in the rate I pay.

Those rates are very cheap. It all depends where you live.

I have a 17 year old daughter. My rates more than doubled when she got her license, but that's with buying a third car so she's a primary driver. Next spring my son will have his license.

Ours is about $700 a year now, full coverage for 2 adult drivers.

When I had the kids on, it was about $6500 a year for 4 cars. I had State Farm back then and they are HIGH.

OMG ...... over $500 a month for car insurance with the kids on it? Good lord, I hope you are the Brady Bunch.

I think the OP's rates are fairly in line with what I am paying. With my soon to be completed divorce, I've now split our car insurance policy into two and we had to switch carriers to get a decent rate. Both our cars are over 10 years old (a 2002 Acura TL and a 2004 Volvo XC70), and the rates quoted were extreme to me. My now gone carrier was looking for ~$90 a month from each of us. The kicker is, the Volvo has 92k miles on it and the Acura 74k. You can do the math to see that these cars get little use day to day. The Volvo has been on three or four extended vacations, and even with that, less than 10k miles per year, and my job for 3 years required major driving. I think one year I racked up 25k miles. Back that time out of the equation and neither car gets more than about 6k a year put on it. A lot of money for such little driving.

Neither the ex nor I have ever been at fault in an accident, no tickets on the radar (pun intended) ...... it's insane. My single largest item after comprehensive is uninsured motorist. Roughly 1 in 3 drivers in Cook County don't have car insurance. Makes life miserable for those of us who do.

WOW.

Unless one of your kids has driven the sidewalks of Dallas running over people, that is some mighty mighty expensive insurance when you had the kids. $700 a year for 2 adults and 2 cars .... about average I'd say.
