Today the Norwegian Constitution is 199 years old - and according to some ways of looking at it so is Norway as a country...
other ways of counting puts Norway at 108 years (in 1905 the parliament told the Swedish-Norwegian king that they figured he had failed to fulfil his duties, so bye!), or at 1141 years (Battle of Hafrsfjord, which may or may not have taken place in or around 872).

At any rate, Happy 17th!

IMO, the Norwegian flag is simply one of the best looking flags. Your photo does it justice.

Happy Independence Day my friend!

Happy May 17th Norway!

I always find European history so much more interesting than American. Here aside from the Indian wars, we only had a couple wars with Canada and Mexico to determine our never changing boundaries. In Europe, countries which we tend to think of a centuries old have had their borders change so frequently, or just wen't in fact countries at all for long periods of time.

When I think of Norway (I am 1/4 Norwegian) I think of the Vikings, so I think of a singular country which has been around for a millennia, not a place which maybe didn't become an independent country until just over 100 years ago (using the 1905 date)
