Can someone suggest a good upgrade (under $120) from the Jagger best, or do you need to drop 2 bills before you see significant upgrade? Thanks.

If you like badger for under $120, I would get a Simpson Duke 2 in best badger.

For face-lathering Vie-Long 2 band badger cannot be beat! I have their 16601 brush and it is fantastic (and has a beautiful handle!).

You can get a pretty nice face lathering 2-band in a Semogue SOC for around $75 new from Techichi.

Or you can get a very nice Simpson's Classic 1, or Case, or Wee Scot...I consider all those to be upgrades from what you have now, but I would choose the 2-band SOC personally for a badger brush.

In Boar I would suggest a WSP Boar or a Semogue 1470, or 610. Both are short lofted firm yet incredibly soft and sell for LESS THAN $20 shipped! The WSP is ready to go right out of the box. Check out my PIF here, if interested. The PIF is open til Memorial Day when a winner will be drawn at random.

Good luck with your search!

Matt

Thanks for your replies guys. The Jagger isn't hateful, just not enough backbone for soaps, IMO.

So you are just looking for more backbone in a badger than the EJ best? How do you want the tips? Softer or scrubbier than the EJ? Any other preferences (ie, custom brush, handle material, type of knot, etc)?
