Gents,

All of the M&F love lately has gotten to me and I'm considering adding one to my den. Since I own a Simpson PJ2 in 2-band (which I love), I was wondering if anyone could make a comparison between M&F 2-band and Simpson 2-band hair.

I have tried 3 from each side, and found that I slightly like the M&F a little bit more, but not by far.
Both Simpson super badger 2 band and Morris and Forndran blonde badger have a firm backbone and soft tips, but I did noticed that the M&F tips were softer, and also had a little bit more of flow.Again, just a little bit more.

The Simpson super badger 2 band that I tried were :

1."Eshan" (Colonel) which was the best of the 3 I would say, with softer tips than the Grosvenor or the 57 "Douglas" and better flow.

2.57 "Douglas"

3.Grosvenor SIMFIX.

And the Morris and Forndran that I tried were :

1.24mm horn hadle :GORGEOUS brush, outstanding two band hair with super soft tips extra firm backbone and excellent flow.

2.24 mm 1/2 style white handle brush.

3. 3/1 style (22mm knot) and it was kind of scratchy.

Get both of each, you wont regret it.Biggrin

I've only had one M&F blond badger, it was set at 24/52. I found it to be too scrubby, bordering on scratchy. I've tried two Simpson 2-band brushes, PJ3 (24/54) and Tulip 3 (25/56), and I loved both these brushes. Soft tips, nice backbone, great flow through.

You'll just have to get the M&F and make a direct comparison Smile

I prefer Simpson 2 band personally. That being said, M&F 2 band is very good too.

My M&F brush had a clear break in period. First it was quite scratchy. It after a few uses the knot relaxed and it was fantastic.

Simpson has the edge, but only just in my case.

Thanks for your input guys. I'm wondering if the scritchy brushes are from the newer batch of hair that I've seen compared to the Rooney finest 2-band. My understanding is that the previous batch of hair is a lot softer and not as stiff, which I would definitely prefer. Maybe I could request that batch from Lee.

Sounds like a great idea. I'd love to hear how this goes for you.

I ended up selling my M&F blond badger because it was too scratchy, but the quality of the brush was unquestionable.

My brush is not from the newest batch but the one before. It's lovely hair.

You can also get Rooney XL Heritage 2-band hair from Lee. I have recently picked up a "M&F" from Lee using the XL hair in a 28/48mm brush and it is identical hair as the XL I have from Rooney.

Super soft tips with great backbone. One of my other recent M&F's has the new batch of hair that is scrubbier/scritchier.

Lee will work with you on a knot that suits your needs, but I would inquire about the Rooney Heritage 2-band hair as it sounds right up your alley.

Thanks for that info, Joe. I didn't know that Lee offered the Rooney heritage hair. I actually own a 1XL and I really like it. For this brush, I think I want something with a bit more scrub than that, but not as much as what it sounds like some of the newer M&Fs have. The heritage hair is definitely something to keep in mind though.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a jade-handled L7 with a fan-shaped 26mm diameter, 51mm loft knot. I mentioned the older batch of hair in my email and he said he could do a "softer" brush.

Excellent choice and dimensions! And this is coming from a guy who adores his Simpson Super 2 bands. Wink

Thanks! I can't wait for it to get here, but I understand that one needs to be patient when it comes to the M&F process Smile.

I also love my Simpson 2-band (PJ2), which has a 22x52mm bulb/dome knot. I think my M&F will compliment it nicely.

I have a feeling you are going to get the Rooney Heritage Hair as Lee is using that a bunch these days. Still will be a great brush.

I have a Chubby 2 2-band that should be in my mailbox when I get home. Will do a comparison once I get to know it better.

That thought had crossed my mind. If that's the case, I have no objection. I used my 1XL today and it is just an amazing brush.

I look forward to your Chubby 2 comparison.
