I'm looking for some opinions on blades for the Cobra Classic. Really, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of options, as most seem to be using the Feather Pro blades or Kai Captain Titan Mild. Which are your favorite and why?

I also wonder what's the deal with the "guard" blades - both Feather and Kai make them, and Phil says they work in the Cobra. Finally, what about the Feather AC Professional Super and Feather AC Professional Light blades?

Neither the Feather Professional Super or Professional Light blades fit the Cobra properly. Your best bet is either the Feather Pro Blades or the Kai Captain Titan Mild. I am told that the guard blades also fit but have not tried them personally.

I've used Feather Pro, Kai Milds and Feather Pro Guards.

So far the Kai Milds are my favorite blade. I could change the blades out after about 10-12 shaves but I end up pushing the blades to about 14 shaves. The 10th through 14th shaves aren't uncomfortable, but their is more tugging and I need more buffing to get BBS. I could probably push the blades even further but I don't.

I don't care for the Feather Pro blades. I find them to be excessively sharp and I end up with a bunch of weepers. If I haven't shaved for a few days the Feather Pro blades are the way to go, it feels like I'm just wiping the whiskers and lather off of my face. But for everyday shaving they just don't work that well for me.

I like the Feather Pro Guards in my non-folding Feather AC SS, just not in my Cobra Classic. I only get about 10 shaves from the Feather Pro Guards in the Cobra. They have a strange sensation on my face, I think the strange feeling comes from the wire on the blade.

The Guard blades just sound weird to me. I'm going to have to order up some Kai blades, though.

I suppose if I don't like them, I can pass them on to you at an Austin meet up, Shawn.

I favor the Kai mild blades over the Pro but not by much. There isn't a huge difference.

You really should get some of each to see what works best for you.

Why don't you PM me your address and I'll get a couple of the Kai mild's in the mail to you that way you can compare the Kai's and the Feather Pro's.

There are also a set of blades from Dorco.

I have some that I use in my Feathe AC-type razor, and I can state that they're excellent. They seem smoother than the Feathe Pros.

The Kai's are excellent too, but the Dorcos are cheaper.

The one thing I don't know offhand is where you can buy the Dorcos; I got them with the razor.

The Kai's are a little smoother than the Feather Pros on my head and face. But they only lasted three days for me. By the end of the third shave they were really getting tuggy.

The Feather Pros on the other hand started out not quite as smooth as the Kai's but last twice as long. In addition to longevity, I also found the quality of the shave was better with the Feather Pros.

Both blades work great, but for me I choose the Feather Pro over the Kai Captain Titan mild.

Where do you buy the Dorcos that fit the Cobra?

Jerry -

I got mine from a buddy. I'll ask him where he bought them from and I'll get back to you on that.

So far, in limited use, it's been a smoother experience with the Dorcos, than with the Feather Pros. As Collin pointed out above, the Pros do last for a long time, while I have no idea about the longevity of these Dorcos.

i have only tried the Feather Pros in my Cobra and as stated, the first 2-3 shaves are very sharp and they can sting you if you are not careful, but their longevity is great; 12-15 shaves. These blades actually get smoother the longer you use them.
Where do you guys buy your Kai blades from?

My next order will be from Shear Integrity they sell the Kai's in a three pack for $48 plus $10 shipping. That works out to about $19.33 shipped per pack. I have found them for $19 other places but you still have to pay for shipping.

The Feather Pro and Kai mild only come in a 20 pack dispenser.

I checked Top Notch Shears, and it looks like the Kai blades are listed as Kasho blades. Shipping charges are what I'd expect for heavier items, too much for a little pack of razors. If I like the Kai's, I plan to call and ask if he'll send them at a lower rate. Or I'll order from Shawn's vendor recommendation.

I have been giving the wrong info regarding where to buy the Kai blades for less. It is not Top Notch Shears. I am still looking for my old invoice.

Sorry for the confusion.

This where I bought my Kai Captain Titan Mild blades and paid $17 + shipping. I did speak to the owner I think his name is Glen and he told me he could discount my next purchase for these blades. He also sells the Feather Pro blades for $15 + shipping.

They are over priced. I paid $17 without any discount.

Since we are giving some "where to buy" tips here, Feather Pro blades can be purchased for $12.95 from my one of my favorite places to shop in Chicago, Merz Apothecary. Here's their online listing:
