Yesterday my wife and I took a day trip on the North Cascades Highway, one of the most scenic roads in Washington state, to Diablo Lake. The Skagit River, a fine steelhead and salmon river, was running pretty high.

We walked in the semi-rain forest along the river, where there still are some large trees.

And the lake itself was beautiful, with emerald green water and the surrounding mountain peaks.

A very good day.

Flew A-6s out of Whidbey way back when, and thoroughly enjoyed flying over the Cascades! Lovely area!

That's some gorgeous country. I have only been able to visit Washington (Seattle) with a quick fly in on business several years ago. I would like to go back and really visit the scenery.
