One of my new brushes arrived the other day and has far exceeded the expectations I had for it.

It's an old model Crabtree & Evelyn (EJ) Super Badger which arrived new and unused from an ebay auction.

It's specs are:

Knot: 25mm
Loft: 60mm
Handle (H X W): 50mm x 42mm

Now being a bowl latherer I'm partial to the occasional floppy brush and this is by far the floppiest brush I've ever used.

It puts my Kent BK12 to shame in the respect and doesn't have a hint of scritch or backbone at all. It is the epitome of a pillow-soft brush.

I wouldn't advise putting it near a soap or even trying to face lather with it - it's most definitely a cream and bowl brush.

The knot splays far more than any other brush I've owned as can be seen in the comparison photo with my BK12 below:

A great brush. I had one for a long time; it was one of my first wetshaving purchases. I face-lathered hard soaps with it and had no trouble. However, it is a bit floppy and I see where you're coming from. A great value at the time I bought it, and I wish I still had it.

Thanks guys.

I think some lather shots are definitely needed as per Dipesh's post.

I'm thinking that some photos side by side with my E3 2-band could well be in order. Smile

Thanks Charles. Smile

As promised guys, here's some side-by-side pictures of the brush with my other recent brush acquisition, an Emperor 3 in 2-band (thanks Dipesh), before, during and after a lathering session with some Cella.

The E3 is a brilliant bowl latherer and has one of, if not the best, 2-band knot I've ever used. It produces a noticeably thicker lather than the EJ brush but where the EJ brush really shines is in the volume of lather it produces - it is (much like my Kent BLK12) an absolute beast in this respect.

It certainly up there with the best brushes in my collection but the E3 does take things to a different level.
