I'm a great fan of Bay Rum; it reminds me of my youth and my days in the Far East. I've tried a few brands, but none seems to have a scent that lasts very long. My current favourite is Royal Bay Rhum, which has a nice menthol snap to it. I also have Captain's Choice, which is nice, but not like the Royal. I've tried Dominica and Pinaud, but, like my current bay, rums their scent is fleeting. Is there a readily available bay rum that has a scent with good staying power?

I am also a Bay Rum fan. When I want staying power this is the one I use.

As with all things skin related do allow for variation. A review may rave about staying power and the following review on the same product may be very neutral about the same aspect. There seems to be a general consensus on many personal products but there are always the folks on either side as well.

+1, or give DRH a shot if you haven't tried it yet.

[b]I find Pinaud VIBR works well for me. I spice it up with straight dark Rum and Orange Peel or Orange essential Oil.

I agree with this 100%. For example, it seems the general consensus is that Dominica is very fleeting but then I read some "outlier" reviews where users can still smell it hours later.

I remember reading an soap artisan on B&B a number of years ago (I can't remember if it Saint Charles Shave or Malaspina) discussing bay rum and how the bay rum scent itself is a top note and therefore by its nature does not last long (like citrus or fern notes) not as long as middle or base notes (like a musk or oakmoss). They explained it in a chemical context and I can't seem to find the thread now.

It seems that the longest lasting BR scents, by general consensus, are the "clove" or "spicy" scents, probably because those scents themselves are middle or base notes.

Just tried the Rum Royale from a local perfumer here in New Orleans. Lasts all day and has a great smell. Pretty good skin care too.

Bourbon French Parfums .
