Hello everyone from the beautiful island of Guernsey.
I've been shaving with a DE razor for about 20 years. I gave up the cartridge razors then as they were always getting bunged up with hairs and soap and you can't clean them. Silly design.
My weapon of choice was a Merkur 11C (The heavy, open-comb one), which kept me happy until I read Leisureguy's brilliant book and of course I then had to try everything up to a 2011 Muhle R41. Scary.
Being a bit of a purist at heart I realised I would evevtually have to try straights, so this time last year I bought a NOS restored Ford & Medley fron The Invisible Edge. Well if I thought the R41 was a challenge, the months of learning straight-razor shaving, stropping and honing has been a whole new level.
Still, nothing worth doing is easy, and even the most cack-handed makes progress eventually. I now rarely go back to my DEs or single-edge razors as there's something deeply satisfying about the process of maintaining, and shaving with ,a chunk of steel that may have been made 100 years ago or more.
I'd like to thank all who share their experience on the various forums- there's so much information and advice freely given it restores an old cynic's faith in human nature.
Happy shaving,

Paul

Welcome to TSN, Paul. I thought I had progressed significantly when I gave up the carts in favour of a DE. Moving on to straights, however, is as you say, raising the game to a much higher degree of satisfaction.
