The new Simpson Limited Edition "The Hive" are now listed for sale. Looks like only one of each variant so if you are after an unusual brush now is the time. Disco Haze and Amber already gone. Has Ben been at it?

I hope that it is a typo. Seems way too big, otherwise.

I have an earlier faux ivory Ltd The Hive and it measures 48-49 mm so a typo makes sense.

I had actually been patiently waiting for these to be released for some time now, but unfortunately due to time differences I was asleep when they were listed and missed out on the handle I wanted... Sad Amber or Disco Haze were the two I would have chosen from. C'est la vie! Now if I can resist choosing from the remaining stock I may just be able to break my Simpson Manchurian AD...

Just by looking at the image alone you can confidently see the knot is smaller than the handle. Therefor if the handle is 55mm, then there is no way the knot is 59mm, but more likely 49mm.

Thanks for the heads up! I picked up the Jade.

Does anyone have any experience with these brushes and can comment on the density/characteristics of the knot?

My Manchurian Jade collection continues!

Thanks for the heads up, guys Smile

I added The Hive in Manchurian Faux Striped Ivory to my little Simpson collection Cool

Although the handle seem a bit tall for a dedicated Facelather like me, I could not pass up on this classic handle - it's a beauty.

As a side note also just got through to Lee Sabini, and paypalled him for an M&F 3XL 2-Bander Blonde Badger in imitation Tortoise Shell with a faux ivory belt Thumbsup Thumbup

Right now I consider Mark & Lee the leaders in the field, when you look at the classic great badger brushes done with a little twist.
Shavemac is very very close - but Bernd is more about doing almost every kind of customization possible.

They are all 3 perfect gentlemen, but have their own unique way of doing things and handle their business Smile

My brush collection would be quite boring and uninspiring without these 3 brush manufacturers, that's for sure !

This may sound crazy but I didn't think or know Simpson would make a brush to my gen. specs!?!?! Thank you for the heads up...I didn't find any other brushes that seriously caught my eye/wallet while searching last night. So it's time to choose specs first, then order MY very own Simpson modelCool

Aren't those PJ3 LE's on the Simpson site really closer to PJ2 dimensions? Not that it matters, I guess.

Mark, the managing director of Simpson and Vulfix is an active member on the Nook.
Although he is quite busy at the moment, making brushes for us all, you could shoot him a PM and an email stating you are interested in a custom order.
He may not be able to get you all kinds of handles and handle colors, but he can definitely make you a very unique Simpson brush Smile

As a side note, I'd be very much interested to learn people's opinions of the Hive. I think I prefer the more rounded shape that Rooney are famous for, but there is no way I could resist such a limited Simpson's handle. I actually had one previously in the standard white handle, but I never used it. I found the handle to be overweight for my tastes and I sold it to another member. I'm lifting weights now in preparation for this new one! Tongue
