Hey folks I'm closelurk from r/wicked_edge.

I'm exactly 2 months in to wetshaving at the moment, having gotten my setup at Christmas. Looking forward to learning a lot from the community here!

FWIW, my shave:

MR GLO in the shower
Truefitt & Hill Pre-Shave Oil
Mug-to-face Lathering
Synthetic Brush
Astra Blades from a Sample Pack in my
Merkur Futur, setting 2.5
ToBS Avocado shaving cream
2 passes, WTG/ATG
Bloc Osma
Warm Rinse
Store brand witch hazel
Nivea Balm when I get too close, Every Man Jack Post Shave Lotion when I don't

My current challenge is comfortably shaving against the grain on my neck and chin. Seems like I can't get close enough for BBS without hurting the rest of the day. Maybe my skin isn't cut out for it. Maybe my blades are not sharp enough. Maybe my angle is wrong. Who knows. I'll be searching the tubez to find out.

Thanks for reading!

Welcome to The Shave Nook. First time wet shaving is a learning experience and in short time you will be an expert. If you are used to cartridge shaving this is much different. Double edge blades are very thin but very sharp and a razor handle can weigh up to 4-5 oz but generally in the 2-3 oz range. What ever you do don't press the razor against your face and neck. Let the razor and blade do most of the work. Less cuts & nicks and little or zero irritation.

Glad to have you here.

Welcome to The Shave Nook! Some good advice shared already as to no pressure with the razor. I use Astra Superior Platinum blades often and they are one of my top choices for a blade. I found that I was able to get a BBS or DFS with a 3 pass shave - WTG, XTG, & ATG. I encourage you to allow yourself time to settle into the process as you try different hardware and software that can truly make a difference in the shave of the day. Enjoy the journey.
