Perhaps I'm just feeling slightly less cranky than usual today.

Personally I have discovered the Russian Astras to be a good blade.

Sam, any blades that you are interested in?

I had found Astras and Sharks to be alright blades and I used them for a while but I've moved away from them in favor of the Personna Lab Blues and Reds.

Usually Astras are highly regarded, particularly in light of the price. I find them to be excellent in some razors, good in others, and downright terrible in a few.

Sharks (in either of the two flavors I've tried) have been usable, but I wouldn't buy them again.

I'm a fan of Astra's. I think there the best value blade out there. They can be had for around $10 per 100 if you shop around.

Sam,

I can get good shaves with both Astra and Shark stainless blades.

I'd categorize Astra SP's as being pretty good blades, with a slight preference for the Astra Stainless (blue) blades. I do find the first shave with Astra's to be a tad rougher than subsequent shaves.

I've used Shark stainless (as opposed to the Chrome) and find them fair to pretty good. For some reason they work particularly well in my Gillette Fatboy (are actually good) but only for 2 shaves.

Although I find both Astra and Sharks to be adequate, there are better blades out there at comparable prices. Fer for the same price point, I prefer Asco orange (also a Lord blade) to Shark's and Personnas or Voskhods to Astras.

Yet as always YMMV, so it may be worth picking up a tuck of each to see if they are for you.

I like the Shark blades, but am not a fan of the Astra SP blades.

For the price from BestShave, Shark blades are hard to beat.

I find the Shark Super Chrome and Astra (both the green packaged Superior Platinum and the blue packaged Superior Stainless) to be very good blades for the money. There are others I prefer but these will definitely give me a decent shave.

I used to have a Muhle R89,but found the handle too short for my average size hands,? so I bought a Parker (I know) barberpole, which had a quality of finish on it that you'd think had been made in the shipyards (I was a Boilermaker in a past life) so I ended up giving them both away to local charity shops.
The blades I used at the time were Feather, and I think Derby, but again gave these away with the razors also.
I'm now looking at possibly getting either a Muhle R89 Grande, or a Merkur 38c and giving it another go.
Sam.

I like the old Shark Super Chromes (white paper with blue writing). The new ones with the yellow paper with red writing aren't as good.

Used both, and I'd have to go with the Astra's. The Shark's were super rough.

The Astras (green and blue) gives me a good shave in every razor I've tried it in. The Shark Super Chrome is a middle of the road blade in most of my razors, but works great in my Merkur Open Combs.
