Hy everybody,
I started in classic shaving in late 2012 and, as my first razor, I bought a Muhle R89. I made a great decision and I really enjoyed this razor that helped me to learn the technique without too much “danger”.
Once I thought I had mastered the technique with the R89, I decided to try an open comb razor and I chose a Muhle R41 and I got the 2013 version (the only one available at this moment). I immediately fell in love with the R41 and stopped using the R89 to only use the R41.
Recently, for my anniversary, my wife and my daughter gave me a R101 and a black Muhle synthetic brush. The R101 head was the same as my R41 so I decided to use the 101 at home and the 41 when traveling.
Unfortunately, last week, my R101 dropped on the floor while cleaning it and the pivot to screw down the top cover of the head to the handle got broken so I couldn’t use it anymore, but I then thought that the top cover of the R89 could be the same as that of the R101 and I decided to try it and, well, it wasn’t the same but, obviously, it screwed perfectly to the handle… leaving more blade exposed. I tried to shave with this configuration and, oh surprise, better and closer shave than with the original R101.
Now, I’m using the R101 with the top cover piece of the R89 at home, I keep the original R41 (2013) for traveling and I’ve stored the R89 without its top cover, so, I’m thinking of buying another R89, but not to keep as it is but to use it to replace the top head cover of my R41 to convert it in another “mixed razor” as with my R101.
Thanks and regards
Òscar

You could do as you outline of simply purchase an R41 2011 from a U.S. vendor--you will be getting the original pre-2013 model.

Bullgoose, WCS or any U.S.-based vendor will have the R41 2011. The U.S. distributor does not have the 2013 version at this time. You can confirm this with the vendor--they are well aware of the issue.
