Today is Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin 123 anniversary.

Georger Bernard Shaw said of him that he was "the only genius to come out of the movie industry".Well,I dont know about being the only one,but for sure,he was a genius, sometimes not well understood by others.

I remember watching its films as a child and how much I like that "tramp" who made me laugh and sometimes cry.

I can only say : thanks a lot,Mr Chaplin!

Here are some films of Charlie Chaplin.I also recommend Sir Richards Attemborough 1993 movie, about its biography and called, "Chaplin" with Robert Downey Jr as Chaplin and John Barry's music (brilliant OST and outstanding Robert Downey Jr performance).

-The Inmigrant (1914) :

-The Kid (1915):

-City Lights (1931) :

-The Gold Rush (1925) :

-The Circus (1928)

-Modern Times (1936) :

-The Great Dictator (1940) :

-Making "Chaplin" the movie (1993) :

I never found him particularly funny and rank him right up there with another set of comedians I also thought weren't funny, The Three Stooges. For pratfall humor it was always Laurel and Hardy for me.

Tragic figure none the less. He was accused of Un-American activites in the 50s and the center of many other controversies. Even in death they did not let him rest in peace.

Chaplin is the great comedic artists who went on to push the boundaries of film making. At different stages of his life, he pioneered film making while all the time maintaining his music hall roots.

There are many great biographies as well as the Attenboro/Downey movies that look at both his brilliance as well as how he was shaped by absolute poverty, abandonment by his father and his mother's mental illness.

Thanks Teiste for your posts and all the great YouTube films.
