Well, it happened again on the 'bay - someone listed a full bowl of the mysterious Houbigant Fougere Shaving Soap for a totally unreasonable price. The last time I saw Houbigant Fougere soap for sale was last September, when our own Brothers (Gary) sold one.

link to closed listing

This time, I happened to have a larger-than-normal credit balance in PayPal along with a BUNCH of eBay Bucks that were scheduled to expire tomorrow, so I pulled the trigger.

Although MdC has been my daily go-to for the past year or so, I can't wait to try out the Houbigant and post a review!

Good score, Ken. It's one of my favorites, and I bought Gary's last fall as a backup. I've had a couple great ones and one that unfortunately had lost all its scent. I hope yours has retained that wonderful smell.

I've never heard of it. How long has it been discontinued?

Seems to be about.................80 years. So roughly as long as the original Fougère Royale itself.

Fougere Royale is outstanding. I'm fortunate to have 2, and both have their scent. Enjoy!

I had one at one point and the performance is second to none. Mine still even had a faint scent.

I ended up trading it to a collector for a puck each of C&S O&C and 88. Knew I could sell it for more, but I never used it and would rather have had soaps that I would.

That is basically why I stopped buying old, discontinued soaps. I'd rather not fall in love with them only to not be able to find them again.

I'm still hoarding my Pen's EF and AOS sandalwood though....

My advice - use it in good health. You only live once!

For those of you that are interested in experiencing Houbigant's Fougere Royale, you can pick up a decant of 10-15ml fairly cheaply from places like The Perfumed Court.

It's pretty amazing stuff. You can see how it inspired a whole genre of fragrances.
