Hey guys, I am looking for recommendations for pre-shave oil. I have been using Art of Shaving since I started. I have no real issue with it, but looking for alternatives to try that are either A) cheaper, B)better performing, or C) All of the above! Biggrin

Look at your local Meijer store in the health and beauty aid section. I found a product called Somerset's pre-shave oil for about $4.99 per bottle I believe.

I use Somerset's now and it works for me. I see that you are in Michigan so, you should have a Meijer near you.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Good luck.

Frank

Shave magic from Walmart is good, cheap and smells strongly of cloves.

One of our own Artisans, Krissy, who owns Prairie Creations makes an excellent pre shave oil.

I have tried many over the years and the AOS you use is fairly good. More recently I have been using Simpsons pre shave oil. Excellent product and, if you buy a brush, they might toss a tube in with their compliments. Cheaper than AOS if you just get the oil.

Shave Magic is cheap and smells of Menthol and Cloves.

I use it with my Menthol Scents shaving creams.

There are several shaving oils on the market and YMMV as to what works best for you.

However, several Shavers make their own Shave Oil by mixing several type of oils together to get an Oil that they like best.

You could just make your own if you want. There are a variety of essential oils you could use.

Dragging this one back to the dead. I finished my AOS bottle, and most of the one I ordered from Krissy. I thought I would give this a try. Wow! Best. Shaves. Ever. So smooth, no razor burn, no more little weepers. Such an awesome product!

Thanks for the recomendation Frank!

I'm alternating between two right now, AOS unscented and Taylor Old Bond st...The taylor ha a nice light scent and has a thinner viscosity compared to the AOS, I prefer the TOBS for this reason...For some reason I find myself using pre shave oil much less than I used to, especially w/soaps

When I did use a pre-shave oil I just made my own. I just blended Jojoba oil and Essential oils.
