The brush pictured below arrived today as part of an ebay purchase.

It looks to me as if it could well be a Simpsons #51 but I cant be 100% sure as the name 'Simpson' does not appear to be etched on the handle but the number 51, Best Badger, Made in England and Sterilised are.

Here's some pictures:

If anyone is able to help me identify it then I would be most grateful.

It's going to need re-knotting, but I thought I'd check out exactly what I have before going to the expense of getting it re-knotted. Smile

Nice pick up. Looks like it could be one of the A&S? branded Simpson brushes.

Hi AJ, this is my Berkley #48. When I got it there was no Simpson name embossed in the handle only a lighter area where the original sticker was (you can just see it in one of the pics). So it had similar makings to yours i.e. number and Made in England. So you may have an old Simpson brush but maybe not as old as pre-Nimmer Mill though.
Pics are after Mark had it refurbished for me as it looked a bit like yours when I got it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the very helpful responses guys. Smile

I've loving the pictures of the both the #48 and the AS2M - they both look totally gorgeous and have helped me make up my mind to definitely get the brush re-knotted.Thumbsup
