I should know better, but I'm going to ask a BOLD question anyway.

Who has one of these that I could try? I would pay for shipping both ways. I want to know I like it before I spring for one.

And I know everyone has their opinions on other brands are better, but I'm not interested in other brands at this time.

Thanks in advance.

BTW Johnny you might want to also try the iKon Modern which I understand is a better razor both in terms of shaving and build quality. Good luck.

I owned the Pils 101, iKon Modern and iKon Modern Bulldog.

Out of the 3, my preference was the iKon Modern. It provided the better shave and the knurling was an improvement over the slippery smooth finish of the Pils.

The Pils IMO is the most aesthetically pleasing of them all, but the commonly reported issues of rust was a factor in me letting it go (despite mine never showing any signs of oxidisation).

Johnny, I know you are not interested in other brands and I wish you success with the search, but you are welcome to try my iKon Modern if it would please you.

Good luck! You don't see these come up for sale often. It's a gorgeous razor.

The reported mild shaves, wildly different shaving angle and my lackluster experience with a mild feather are the three reasons I haven't tried one.

Based on looks and the nifty twisting on/off action of the head, it is hard not to rationalize into more spending though.

I hope someone comes through for you before you purchase.

For this kind of money I won't purchase before I try one. Money is a precious commodity, the razor is not.

If I tried one and liked it, I would come up with the funds to purchase one. If I did not like it then I would not have to worry about it.

Johnny...you should take Ben up on his offer. The iKon Modern and the PILS shave very similarly but the iKon is easier to hold onto. If you do not like the way the iKon shaves, you will not like the PILS. If you do like the iKon, you may still not like the PILS (due to the narrow and slippery handle).

I thought the PILS was a cool razor but I had a hard time holding onto it while shaving and, my razor had a propensity to rust.

The search is over. Actually the search is cancelled. From conversations with members that I highly respect and that have had experience with the PILS, I've decided this is not the razor for me at any price.

I love my AS-D2 and that's all I need.

(If it ain't broke, don't fix it, don't try to keep up with the Jones, and don't covet thy neighbors goodies, etc., etc., etc.)

Wise decision Johnny.

I can't see it satisfying you the same way the Feather D2 does. IMO the PILS is a very asthetically pleasing razor, but so is the Feather in its own way. Performance and build wise again I favour the Feather. The PILS' spinning head for loading is very cool, but concerns over rusting, the slippery feel of the handle combined with the heavy head provide a less confident feel in the hand and the oversized head demands a different approach that feels less agile.

IMO, the iKon Modern is another example of how Greg takes inspiration from a good razor and then makes it better. If you ever wanted to try this version the offer stands, as unlike my Feather D1, D2 and PILS, the iKon Modern is a keeper!
