Instead of the standard rinse preparation this evening, I took a shower and while leaving my face moist I applied pre-shave oil and let it set in. And then, I prepared a home version of the barbershop hot towel for myself for the first time.

I took a basic white hand towel and moistened it and placed it in a microwave safe casserole dish and set the microwave to 3:00 min and let it go.

I made sure to wring out all of the water before putting it into the microwave. And what I found was that I was able to wrap my face and neck completely for a very relaxing, warm beard prep prior to my shave tonight.

Has anyone else done this at home?

I normally use a hot towel, but just by running it into very hot water that comes out of the faucet, no microwave. The water is hot enough that it is hard to touch. I squeeze all the water and then put directly into my face. Real nice feeling Smile

I did this the very first week I started DE shaving and came to the conclusion that, for me, it wasn't worth the effort.

I use to do this when I used a hot lather machine. And like Fab, I just used hot water from the faucet. My hot water, especially out of the kitchen is steaming hot.

Now if you want to get really relaxed. After you get through shaving, do the same in reverse. Put very cold water on the towel and wrap your face and neck.

i tried this when i first started, but soon realized that hot water was not compatible with my skin for a good shave and since trying cold water shaving, i haven't gone back.
Nonetheless, if this is working for you, then continue and enjoy the routine! Biggrin

I used it religiously when I started, I've done a lot actually, my shaves were taken an hour Biggrin
I found it to be a huge waste of time and effort, not needed at all, but does feel nice though Blush

I've done it once or twice. It wasn't my thing. But if you find that it works for you, treat yourself. Thumbup

I need to take this up again but couldn't be bothered in the end. I get the same results with a good prep routine.

It's part of my routine. I sometimes skip it if I'm in a hurry. Still get close shaves. Guess I just like how it feels... The SPA effect....lol

I tried the hot towel a few times but didnt' like it enough to keep it up.
Sometimes I'll still do it if I have more than a days growth (which is almost never Wink)
