Warning: this is a teaser.

This Tuesday morning, August 13, I will be using one of my Somerset (pre-Vulfix) Simpson Best Badger brushes for the last time. Then they all will sit and dry well for two weeks before being offered for sale. On Monday, August 26, I will send the price list to those who bought one of my Pures so that they get first chance at buying. On August 28 I will post an ad here on the forum listing the asking prices for everyone else to see.

There are 30 brushes that will be offered, with quite a variety of colorations and characters. Some have stickers, some don't. Some have their original boxes, and some don't. All are in excellent condition. They will be priced from $60 to over $300. Here is a group shot of them.

A great photo! Good luck with the sale. However, I doubt that you will need luck selling that collection of great brushes.

Those will be gone before most will get even to see the list on the 28th ;-)

If you don't mind me asking, why will they no longer be part of your den?

If this is everything you are selling, what exactly are you keeping to shave with for yourself?

Again, I hope you aren't giving up shaving. If not I'd like to see the brushes that made the cut for you to keep in the shave denBiggrin

Hi, guys. I'm selling the Bests because I'm now in my mid-60s and am feeling a need to simplify and downsize my life in a number of ways. It's been a lot of fun having and using all the old Simpsons, but the time has come to unload. Regarding the brushes I'm keeping, I'll still have 19 Rooney Finests, a few custom Rudy Veys, a few vintage Simpson Manchurians, a few Simpson butterscotches, and a couple dozen Somerset Supers. I may end up selling some or all of the Supers in the fall, but I'll have to give that some more thought. The others I'll keep forever.

John, I went through that phase when I was in my mid-60s - and it didn't stick! Think hard before you simplify too much, because it's expensive to start de-simplifying again!

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Ken. I've given it a lot of thought, and discussed it endlessly with my wife, and I'm pretty sure of what I'm doing. I went through the same thing with my collection of trout flies and rods and my vintage left-handed Weatherby rifles (every caliber from .224 mag to .460 mag), and I don't regret getting rid of them and moving on finally. My "needs" have become much simpler these days.

That's an impressive collection! Did you make the display cases yourself? - They're really nice looking.
