Really happy with this. Going to source some classy black scales from a wrecked blade for my classy french razor. So nice to finally find an old straight that was used by someone who knew what he was doing back in the day and didn't wreck it. And no pitting, and no rust. Before/after on the blade.

Scales are a lost cause. One was mended at some point in its life and the other looks like the material lost any and all moisture content and subsequently shrunk as it warped.

I read really hard steel on these? Any special honing considerations?

The blade looks to be in super condition, new set of scales and the blade buffed up the razor will look like new.

I took a punt on a ragged blade with weirdly pristine and nearly identical scales for $2. Hopefully, the new clothes for my grelot.

Gentlemen,
The Le Grelot is a wonderful razor, indeed. At one time I had five, but now am down to one, which is a keeper. There should a Le Grelot in every collection. kcb, good show with your Le Grelot find.

Congrats on that Le Grelot blade. It does look to be in great condition! Once you get the scales replaced it will be a joy to use, I'm sure.
