Hello Shavenook:

Need some guidance from peeps who have used both Feather AS-D2 and Feather Popular DE Razor (TTO).

Besides the obvious price and quality differences, I would like you guys to shed some light on the following (maybe rate it on a scale of 1 to 5):

1. Effectiveness of shave

2. Mildness

3. Aggressiveness

Thank you.Cool

Well sir, I have and use both.

The AS-D2 is more effective and more aggressive than the Popular. Both are mild razors but the Popular is milder. I generally take the Popular with me when I travel.

I can get what I call a DFS in two passes with the AS-D2 and it takes me three passes with the Popular to do the same.

Thanks for the quick feedback, Johnny.

I am in two minds as I currently own the popular and have been using it for 2-3 months. Popular is the first DE that I have owned. I haven't used any other DE yet. I get a DFS in 2 passes with the popular.

So, based on your feedback, I am thinking the AS-D2S would probably suffice in my case, but there are so many other options. Huh

Can't help you since I have not owned the 'Popular', but if you want an über mild, yet still usable razor in prestine quality, especially nice and best suited for daily shaves and not so much for 2-3-4 days stubble, the AS-D2 is the best you can get Smile

I agree with Claus. If you like mild efficient razors, IMHO you will not find a better built, higher quality razor than the AS-D2.

As-d2

1. Effectiveness of shave--for me not enough to keep it..left to much hairs.

2. Mildness---toooo mild

3. Aggressiveness- non existent for me.

Hi Arash,

I just recently purchased the Feather AS-D2 last month. Just a couple of thoughts for you:

1) The effectiveness of the shave really has to do with your technique or razor angle. After the first shave I was about to sell it. I felt it did not shave close enough, but it felt very "smooth" on my face. After the 4th shave with the AS-D2, it was a keeper for me, as I got the BBS shave with very little irritation. I think the type of whiskers (coarsness, density) may play a role into how well the Feather works for you along with type of blade. I have "Asian whiskers" so the feather cuts through them just fine.

2) Mild razor that it does not feel like the blade is "scraping" your face. Some people say that it's like they cannot feel the razor cutting the whiskers. I have felt that sensation. However, I have been working on doing better pre-shave prepping, and I can honestly say that I can hear the razor "sing" as it cuts through my beard.

3)The Feather is not aggressive it all, as stated above, sometimes you cannot even feel it. However, one can still get nicks if your not careful.

Hope that helps.

-Chris

I've used both and hands down the AS-D2 is the better razor (I don't currently own either because both were too mild for me). Though both are mild, the AS-D2 is more efficient. The Popular looks and feels cheap, whereas the AS-D2 oozes quality and style.

Thanks for quick response, Rey, but in your opinion, which is milder? Or are they very similar?

They are pretty similar in terms of mildness, but the AS-D2 is smoother

This is a good thread. I just picked up a Feather Popular for travel. I absolutely love the shave! Having read the aforementioned, I'm going to try and get my family and SO to get the A2-D2 for my birthday! Biggrin
