Has anyone done a trial and error test on the optimum temp for lather prep. I know it's probably very subjective according the technique used.

If a product is heat friendly, I see no difference in lather quality from cold to warm to hot water being used.

That being said, not all products are heat friendly and tend to break down with heat.

Hot tap was is the warmest I use in my scuttles.

Hot tap water is all that's needed. A good example of what Bruce is talking about is Mitchell's Wool Fat. It does not act well if the water is to hot.
