I already shared this in the portuguese forum, but it was such a nice surprise I had to share it with everyone. Blush

My father-in-law, who never got used to using a straight razor, bought a Filarmonica quite some years ago to offer his father, who thought he had lost his old one... but as he ended up finding it, the razor was never used!

When he saw my (however recent) interest in the wetshaving world, he offered it to me for my birthday! Here it is, still with that "new razor smell" Tongue :

Accompanying this razor came the old razor that was thought lost. This one is at least 80 years and needs quite a bit of work:

In conclusion, two Filarmonicas in a day... Makes for an amazing birthday! Biggrin

Wow Congratulations! I think the Jose Monserrat Pou are the best years of Filarmonica myself so you have some real gems, and then being family heirlooms makes them priceless.

That new old stock one is magnificently stunning!! Congrats. The older one, it has a really pronounced frown and lot of honewear. It will not be an easy hone. Do you have a fair bit of experience with honing? It is not one I think a beginner should take on, in my oppinion! Send it to an expert if you really want to get it restored.

I couldn't agree more! Your grandfather's razor deserves to be restored and used with gusto! You're an extremely fortunate guy!

No experience at all, but I have a friend that is an expert and I know he'll do a great job with it!

The NOS is a wonderful gift, but the one that belonged to your Grandfather is the real gem.

Not my grandfather, my wife's grandfather, but you are otherwise absolutely correct, that is the greatest gift. I just hope I can have it restored as it deserves, I would eventually like to use it.
