I was informed late last week that I can no longer import the Tabac Shave Sticks due to USDA regulations. The packaging is for the European market and my understanding is that the coloring agent used prevents its import. I will try and get further information.

The shave bowls and refills are not affected as they come through a U.S. distributor with U.S. friendly packaging.

Perhaps this is the end result of a USDA agent's bad experience with Tabac ... Tongue

Government regulations ... so paradoxical sometimes! Tabac items are restricted because of color agents, yet other blatantly toxic items are available in a widespread manner ... Huh

I told some Tabac last week on a B/S/T. Had thought about trying a shave stick, is the smell as bad as the soap in the milk dish?

I wouldn't necessarily say it was bad, but yes, it is as potent as the puck, if not more so. It seems to get retain a stronger scent longer than the puck, perhaps due to being closed up in the small tube. Huh

Tabac is not a bad scent, but the tobacco component dissuades some since most of us do not care for the cigarette smoke smell...There is something in it that reminds me of a bygone era...an era where Doctors TOLD people to smoke for the health benefits...we have come a long way....Cool

It amazes me how varied the senses can be from one person to another. I was a smoker for 19 years and finally quit 2.5 years ago, cigarette smoke has become one of my most hated of scents..I can detect even the slightest hint of it and I do not detect it one bit in Tabac.
I do however get a bit of a perfumed tobacco scent, akin to pipe/cigar tobacco. (before burning of course)

So the bowls and pucks are still good. Do you know if the shave stick refills are affected by this as well?
Thanks for the heads up.

I suppose my description wasn't spot on...it doesn't smell like cigarette smoke...it smells like cigarettes, so yes, like refined tobacco. The smell of cigarettes is not pleasant to me, not that unsmoked cigarettes have a bad scent, just that I don't care for it / them. I do LOVE Pipe Tobacco, though...perhaps it is associative...I associate cigarettes with cancer and death, whilst pipe tobacco scents remind me of my great grandpa...it's probably psychological... Huh

I would imagine that this would include the shave stick refills as well.

To me the Tabac I had (all of it from the soap, EDT, aftershave) never smelled like smoke, cigarettes, or tobacco. What it did smell like to me was a awful smell that I just couldn't bare. I love the smells however of Arko, MWF, and some other odd things that some others don't enjoy. Just another case of YMMV.Biggrin

I always understood that the tobacco part is actually from the tobacco flower, not the leaves.

Perhaps all the more reason to stock up now if member can find the sticks anywhere, otherwise it's back to the pucks.
