I'm newish to the wet shaving world and wasn't around when the super-iridiums were available at least from what I have read they stopped making them. You can still find them from people that stocked up but you can also run into the chance of buying 'fakes'. I know these were regarded as one of the best razors not just for sharpness but also smoothness. So I was wondering what razor that's still in production would you say is the closest to the super iridium? I'm still going through sampler packs trying to find the best razor for myself but so far it's the Gillette's in the yellow package. Astra SP's are great too for the price. But I would love to try the Super Irdiums and also its closest razor to it.

Thanks,
Joshua

In answer to your question about razor blades.
Still in production: Polsilver Super Iridium
Closest razor blade to an SI: Permasharp in the cardboard packaging

Are the Polsilvers the same as the other ones?

That is my understanding as well.

I had a small stash of Super Iridiums, but since I can find suitable replacements (Perma-Sharps and Silver Blues), I traded my remaining Iridium blades. Smile

The original Super Iridiums are still being made.
You can buy them here: http://www.superiridiumblades.com/2012/0...lades.html

How does one spot a fake, if such a thing exists?

I would love to know what they sell for. Is selling a fake blade really cost efficient? It seems like you would have to sell a lot of them to make much of a profit.

Here is the blog I was reading when I came across the 'fake' super iridiums. I have no idea how good of a source it is.

Cool!

So I guess the whole SI debacle is merely a marketing exercise that back fired? And that Milo is able to acquire the blades because he is not in the U.S.?

I buy my SI blades from Emilio, he is without question an honest and honourable man.

The fake SI's have been around for years and are easily discernible due to discrepancies with spelling and wording on the packet. The fakes are really rather obvious, but other (perhaps less stand out) tell tale signs include:
Packaging does not open properly.
The blade is harder to flex.
Packaging colour is duller.
Grease spots rather than silicone glue.

I wasn't questioning Emilio's ethics. I was trying to get a clearer picture as to why we have all these misconceptions and screwing around with something as simple as a DE razor blade.
