I'm about 5 shaves in on my 1926 Gillette Tuckaway.
So far I'm loving the results, even with a few bites-back.

I'm a big fan of the NEW LC and the Tuckaway takes it
to the next level of aggression/efficiency. I've been getting some of my best DE shaves ever with it. I have also cut myself in places where no other razor has ever cut me, so it demands respect.

Any other lovers of Gillette New-Improved head razors?

I'm surprised that there are no other fans...

The New-Improved was a pretty short-lived model between the Old-Type and NEW, but I think it's a great OC razor.
The aspect of it that surprises me is that it feels very mild on the face... till it cuts you. As long as you are careful it's fine,
but because it feels so gentle it's easy to apply a bit of pressure
and then you could be seeing red.

I had a New Improved Tuckaway I shaved with early in my journey, and it seemed to be harsh to my baby face back then. I would totally love to give it another go with a full length handle..

I am a big fan of New Improved. I have a 1922 Big Fellow with a NI head. I totally agree with your assessment of it being mild in feel, but can bite very easily with the slightest pressure. It took me a while to get a hang of this razor, but I love it now. I really enjoy the Big Fellow version with that long handle and perfect balance. I have a Lady Deluxe set, which is basically a Tuckaway in gold and a different case and of course a new Deluxe head instead of your NI. I really like that razor too. It shaved a lot like the New but heavier. I think NI has a very unique head. Very mild feel, but not mild action. Excellent razor, one of my favorite open combs. Also almost silent. It has almost no blade exposure, but a huge blade gap. This gives it its unique feel and performance.

Enjoy it in good health! It's a beauty.

Maybe one day will put the right head in the right handle.

Bjorn, I'm a fan of the Gillette open combs and the New Improved, Single Ring and Old Type are my favorites. Nice Tuckaway.

These two heads are my favorite Gillette open combs. New long comb is another, but it very similar in shave to the New Deluxe and the Deluxe has more weight to it, which makes it almost perfect. New Improved is simply amazing and like no other OC I tried. I find I can actually control the aggressiveness by modulating pressure very slightly. It's a delicate operation because the NI will bite after a very low threshold of pressure. However if I can stay under the threshold I get an amazing shave. I find a milder blade works better for this technique. Merkur or Bolzano blades work well here. Sharper blades lower the threshold, it seems and the pressure modulation technique is out the window.

You could look for a Big Fellow or put the head on the handle of your choice. I may try my Fat-handled Tech handle and see how I like it.

I see we agree on more than just SEs. The NEW-Improved was one of my favorites when I was still DE shaving. One day I may break them out again.

You know, I also prefer shorter handles most of the time, but the Big Fellow is different somehow. It is balanced perfectly and the handle is just perfect in every dimension. The diameter, the length, the weight and texture are all in concert with each other and make for the best feeling DE razor I have tried. It is my only long handled razor and I really, really like it. The New Improved head is, of course great, but like all bullet style heads needs to be tightened down carefully otherwise there can be uneven blade exposure. That's minor and is just an attribute of the design. All bullet style heads I tried have this issue to some degree.

If you ever have a chance to try a BF with NI head, jump on it. You may be surprised how good a long handle can be. I was.

The long comb head is my 1 of 2 favorite OCs. I had it replated in shiny nickel, and now have the head mounted on a UFO Goliath handle. Just great!!

I picked up a brassy New Improved Tuckaway locally about two months ago. It quickly joined the ranks of "razors I will NEVER sell".
