One of my buddies was sending a bunch of knives off to get DLCed and he asked if I had anything I wanted to add to the order. I sent my new Weber polished razor with it. I knew how it would turn out, like a black chrome, and I was very excited to see the results. You can see on the bottom of the head, where it was bead blasted, how it looks like the normal dlc razors that weber did. But the rest looks completely different. I am eager to try it out tonight since I don't believe it will have the "drag" that the bead blasted ones have. Since dlc is suppose to reduce friction I am hoping for a slick shave. Let me know what you think. Sorry for the smudges, it's hard to get them all off.

Very interesting. From the pictures you've posted, it appears that your coated razor head is slicker than the stock DLC. I suspect the stock DLC heads were bead blasted only, ie not polished on top, before coating. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on shaving performance ...

Who did the plating?

Yes the Weber DLC's are bead blasted then coated. I never understood why they blasted them then coated, I figured you would want as smooth of a surface as you could get.

I am not sure who did the coating, I just sent it to my friend and he sent it back like this. lol Sorry I couldn't be more of a help in that department.

That is a great job on the coating and I hope you enjoy the razor and the shaves.
If you are interested in a cerakote black coating I applied to my Weber PH, check it out here:

I apologize if this seems I am trying to derail or hijack this post. I just wanted to share some important information with the members and I thought it might accompany your post well as you beat me to this before I had a chance to post mine.Blush

Yes I shaved with it the other day. It was very slick against my face. I am sure some of it was in my head but I have never had a razor glide over my skin like that. I will report back after a few more shaves.

Did you ever shave with a stock DLC head? I would be interested in a comparison. Also any idea of the cost for the aftermarket DLC?

Why not just ask your friend who did it and then post it.... I'm sure a lot of guys here would like to know.

He said he would rather not say, he only does it on the side. I'm sorry.

From what I understand, most places only do large batches of coatings. My friend told me that he had 50+ pieces going out in that batch and that is very close to the minimum.

Yes I have owned a Weber DLC and didn't care for the drag that the bead blasted surface produced.
