Horrible price for the buyer or seller?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Ever-Ready-A...5d434f15e9

This looks like $272.50 to the United States if that's where it went.

Maybe this gent paid a ton for it and is just hoping to get out of it what he paid for it.

The one you link to is much more rare.

Possibly, but then my comment still remains true but just toward whoever charged the price initially. Again, if it was an auction then you'd see that the most this would go for would be $150. He's almost $100 higher than that.

This thread has been moved to the Safety Razors section. The Selling and Trading area is only for listing of items you are selling/trading - not someone else's eBay item.

It's missing one of the blade banks. Hardly a mint set. Much more than I would pay for it.

Just for the record, most SE razors are much more reasonably priced. That's why I have a mess of "other" SE razors and not one Streamline.

That price is completely nuts. I don't care if he paid $1k, it's not worth it.

More rare in what respect? Please educate me. Looks the same to me and maybe in better condition.

I've had three or four Streamlines. They're good razors and worth about $50 at the most. Maybe a great set would sell for $100. Anything over that is a waste.

Do they shave any better than other SE razors? Depends on the person, but in my hands they were fine, but not exceptional, shavers.

The weight is nice, but I like the Mocromatics better. The Streamlines just get the press.

The razor is the same so that obviously isn't what makes it more rare. The difference is the case & overall condition. The green Ambassador set you link to is collector showroom grade & people will pay for that. The green case is also rarely seen.

The current one in question is the "basic" off-white clamshell case and it isn't even a complete set as it is missing a blade bank.

That is easily why there should be at least a $100 difference between the two. Of course, all of this is in my (not so) humble opinion. Winky

Just curious but do you happen to be the seller of this one?

I agree with Brian: The reason that's set sold for as much as it did is because the set itself is rare (even if the razor was the same as other Streamlines).

I'm not a collector, and I wouldn't spend the money on a rare razor set, but it is important to collectors, and that's great. Everyone has to have a hobby. Smile

I collect Ever-Ready Streamlines and GEM Jewels and I wouldn't pay that much. The market will correct itself.
As to how they shave...I get as good a shave with my OCMM and OC Damaskeene as I do with a SL. I like them mainly because of the heft and feel.

Here's a look at my newest Streamline set. I believe it's a travel set. Big case and heavy. I hope you enjoy the pics. The set itself is even better than the pics show.
