I stopped at the antiques store last night on the way home and asked the owner if she ever gets any old soaps, creams or razors and she reached under her desk and pulled out an AoS Lemon Tallow refill! Then she said "come with me" and took me into the warehouse and proceeded to give me a used bowl of Trumper Limes which I 'm hoping is tallow! Upon further inspection she also gave me a nearly full Mr. Taylors tub, too!

When I asked how much she playfully said "will you use them?" when I said "Yes" she said "No charge, they are stinking up the place"!!!

I was like Biggrin all the way home!

My lucky day!

Matt

You lucky, lucky man!

I do hope you find some way to repay the owner, he seems to deserve it. Wink

Yes...she is a sweet old lady consumed by her obsession with antiquing and antiques in general and her husband has a button he wears that reads "smiles are free".

I offered to put in two phone lines for them...one in the basement and one upstairs. Right now she has to go up or down the stairs to get the phone and the cordless only goes so far.

The folks that survive in the antique business have a tough time now. Any help we give them is appreciated. I spot for a couple locals when garage saleing and even buy smalls for them when i spot a nice piece they can make money on. The phone line thing you are doing is a wonderful act. The word gets out and you have made some great friends. And joined a network!
Secret to antiques dealers.
1. always greet them
2. smile, they get a lot of grouches.
3. Don't kvetch when you don't find what you want.
6. If you have a card and will be around the area again, leave one with them.Mark on the back what you are looking for.
7. Always say "Thank you" when leaving. That also lets them know that the door buzzer is not a new customer if they are not in sight of the door!

All great points, Richard! Luckily I have been visiting this nice couple for about 10 years and have made very good friends with them...I have gotten some fantastic deals on some very interesting and beautiful pieces over the years. I'd always asked for Razors, but it never dawned on me to ask for soaps or creams before...Now she knows I'm interested! She said she usually throws them away since she can't sell them since they are used...I told her I would Barter with her for anything she finds and I have a whole collection of Railroad Light Globes that she has been asking about. Her husband is a train buff...

I love going to Antique shops...even if I don't find anything that piques my interest...Store like that make my wife "Itchy", but not me...I LOVE it! They are comforting somehow...

As I read your story I thought, this is going to end with:

"and then, unfortunately, I woke up out of my dream"

Hahaha - I went to my bathroom rack this morning just to make sure it wasn't a dream, then I had a wonderful shave with the Trumper Limes! I'm not sure it's the Tallow Formula like I had originally thought, but it sure isn't the useless drivel they are putting out now...It was a nice abundantly thick, slick lather and I got a really nice shave from it. I'm debating opening the AoS Lemon next...
